part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5 part 6 part 7 part 8 part 9 The couple had been married for a few months, growing closer and more comfortable with each other as the time slipped past. Gwiboon was happy and the twinkle in Jinki’s eyes made her assured of his contentment as well.
That night was typical for them. They had just finished their evening meal, another attempt that was less than satisfactory in Gwiboon's opinion. She had prepared some coffee for them to enjoy while they relaxed. Jinki was lying down, his head in her lap while he read aloud from his book. Gwiboon's absentminded fingers carded through his hair as she listened to his sweet voice paint such vivid pictures with only words.
It was mundane to say the least.
Gwiboon almost didn’t notice when Jinki reached the end of the chapter. He marked the page with a scrap of leather before laying the book down. She snapped out of her daze, her fingers pausing their motion when she noticed him staring up at her with an affectionate smile.
“I love you,” He whispered, the phrase falling from his lips with ease, as if it belonged there.
Gwiboon’s breath caught in her throat, his words were so sincere and so… sudden. She had no idea what had prompted such a confession. What she did know, was that she spent each day looking forward to when he would return from work. She knew that she treasured every smile he bestowed upon her, locking each and every one away in her heart to remember forever. What she did know was that she desperately wanted to please him. Not only because it was her duty, but because she wished for him to be as happy with her as she was with him. Gwiboon was young and inexperienced. All of these emotions were new and confusing to her, but deep down she knew that the warm feelings in her heart were more than mere affection.
The words came just as naturally to her as they had for Jinki, “I love you, too.”
For one long moment he only stared at her before his face morphed into that eye-crinkling smile she had grown so fond of. He looked as though her words had made him the happiest man in the world. Her heart as wide and full as the ocean when he reached out to her, pulling her down for a kiss that she returned with equal enthusiasm.
Gwiboon wasn’t sure if there was enough space inside herself for how happy, how content, how utterly in love she was.
