The picture backup didn't go completely as planned, but at least I do have a local, but not on the computer backup. I was making some minor changes to my blog today (Instagram link in the pages section, got rid of followers and following) and thought about backing it up. I downloaded the xml file, which is all computer-y, but could be reimported

I had to rebuild my site after it was exploited. This included finding posts that made it across to lj and very luckily having a lot archived at webarchive.
But yes, lj and dw can be exported. I have had difficulty but there are some xml processors that can display the content very much like a spreadsheet. That makes it pretty easy to remove say all tags, or change all privacy settings, or to change a value.

And thankfully you did have a lot of it archived! Redoing things is even harder than doing them in the first place...
