Karin had gotten to the park at 2:42 P.M. exactly, always the punctual one. She had managed to get out of class with enough time to stop in the girl's bathroom and change her school uniform blouse in opt for a plum long-sleeved peasant top with a lilac color to the floral pattern and a ribbon to match that wrapped around her chest midrib with a baby-doll style. She wasn't much for the floral prints, really, but it was one of the nicer shirts she owned. Her school issued skirt, socks, and shoes were left alone though, for lack of time ( ... )

Zaku clambered up a small rise after crossing the creek, brand new clothes now a soaking mess, but he didn't worry about that... he just wanted to show up on time. He checked his watch... it's 3:10 already?? Zaku grimaced as he was almost there, coming out from behind a shrubby little tree. He stopped for a moment after emerging from the foliage, appearing no further than 3 meters away from the sheltered bench where Karin was sitting. She hadn't looked in his direction yet, and that was when he had realized how wet and muddy he really was. The rose he was holding was missing a few petals as well...

Zaku's face grew sullen as he looked at the damaged rose... it was so perfect earlier!

After 3:00 passed, she had fallen into a rhythm of looking to her watch and sighing. All the bad scenarios she had thought up in her head came to bubble into her head and her first thought was that he wasn't going to show at all. He was only trying to screw with her since she had come onto him at her party... But she shook her head, trying to shake those thoughts out with it.

Zaku wouldn't be like that, she told herself. And she knew that she was only being paranoid. It was raining, and so there could've been many other reasons she hadn't thought about.

When she shook her head, some of her bangs fell into her face. With a soft sigh, she reached up and gently pushed it behind her ear. Looking around as she did so, she then noticed Zaku off to the side, soaking wet and muddy. Her bad thoughts disappeared as she stood up in worry and motioned for him to come over and get out of the rain.

Zaku looked up and hurried over to the overhang to get out of the rain. "Uhh... hi Karin. Sorry I'm late..." He blushed a little and looked down at the tattered white rose in his cut up hand. "This was for you, but... you probably don't want it now, though..." He held it up to show her.

Looking her up and down, he noticed that she had changed from most of her school uniform before showing up. He had honestly expected her to have come in her uniform, thinking that she would be oblivious to what his intentions were for the meeting. Seeing that, Zaku gained a little bit more confidence in what he was doing.

"Hey Karin," the drenched Zaku tried to smile and looked at her face, "I think you already know what I'm going to say. You're smart like that." Zaku's face was a little more flushed, but he didn't mind, though he was totally aware of it. "I have a huge crush on you... will you... go... out with me?" Zaku stuttered as he spoke.

Her hand flew up to cover her mouth as she looked at this wet, muddy, pitiful guy standing before her, holding out the wet rose that was missing most of its petals. She giggled a bit, "It's fine, really. Thank you." And she took it with a bow of her head and a smile on her lips.

"My goodness," she said as she looked him over as well, "Did you cross a river to get here? You're a mess. I hope everything is ok." She teased him lightly with the comment, and then let it go as he continued on.

She watched him fumble the words out of his mouth, looking at him with a smile that slowly disappeared. Ok, she had imagined that this might happen today, too. In all honesty, she was praying that it might. Even so, she hadn't really expected it.

She blinked a few times in rapid succession, making sure she heard him properly. "Really? Yes! Yes, of course!" Her girlish ways, usually hidden, bounced her to life as she hugged him, wet clothes be damned.
