My thoughts on Girrrrrrl Power (fictional female characters on television I like and admire)

Jan 12, 2007 14:30

Yesterday, I was giving someone some Supernatural fic recs and I went to make sure I'd recommended the correct author. While I was there, I noticed that the person had written a lot of posts about Bones in her journal. I was really delighted until I realised that she was only watching the show because of David Boreanaz and absolutely hated the ( Read more... )

Right on the spot with Sharon and Kara! I just never really liked Kara, mainly because she is exactly like a former close friend of mine. But I love your description of Sharon, to me, she and Helo are two most realistic characters on BSG. Course, that could be due to the fact that I'm an extremely sheltered girl :)

I don't dislike Kara, I just don't love/admire/like her so much. I think Sharon is lovable, although others think she's a genocidal evil bitch, so that just goes to show you how tastes differ ;)

Interesting post :) Having just watched more of Prison Break I agree with your comments on Sara Tancredi - she is amazing. I think part of the reason that women sometimes might be more critical of female characters could be that in real life women are usually more critical of other women than of men. With men I think we're less critical, possibly because (for the straight female population anyway!) we are somewhat distracted by good looks :) Not that I would be interested in a male character who was good looking with nothing else going for them - e.g. intelligence, a moral sense/sense of values etc. I like Michael Schofield because not only is he good looking *g* he's also intelligent, gutsy and loving - although I have some difficulty reconciling that with the whole "rob a bank and fire a gun in front of the staff" thing. I think I need to remind myself that he's just a character and this is just a show *laugh* Needless to say I am really enjoying it so far ( ... )

Bahahahaha. It's ok, I know they're fictional but I enjoy talking about them as though they're real ;) The issue of whether Michael Scofield's selfless goal in any way absolves him from his crimes is an interesting one. In one post I've made, I list out a whole bunch of things Michael has done, people who have been injured or died because of things he has done in the name of saving his brother's life. You have to start wondering if Lincoln is really worth all that :D Sara and Michael are love though. *sighs* :D

I also like Temperance Brennan so you are not alone ;)

Hee! I knew there was a reason why we got along so well ;) *hug*

I think I was predestined to like female martial artists because I loved She-Ra as a six year-old :)My brother just bought the dvds of He-Man and they're hilarious. I adored She-Ra's red lips and glam appearance :D It's like she bought her lipstick from ( ... )

"I wonder if there are patterns. People who like Female Character X are more likely to like Female Character B, but will hate Female Character D. If someone psychoanalysed the female characters I like, would they conclude that i'm a Good Person or a Crap Person? *eyeballs Stephen ( ... )

Does that make me superficial?

She's great and as syliasyliasylia once mentioned to me, 'being superficial is underrated'. :D I think the reasons we like a tv character are very intuitive/emotive/subjective. It's like you say with Kara, her fans adore her, I find her borderline annoying. I adore Sharon, others hate her.

What about Sydney Brisow

I only watched the first two seasons and then moved overseas and didn't get to keep up..... but yes she's a kickass heroine I also like (assuming that she didn't change dramatically from the first or second season).

I haven't been able to get into Prison Break, but I plan on checking out Bones, when I figure out what time it's on TV in the U.S. If I like it, I'll go back and do season 1!

Bones is excellent and probably better than Prison Break in terms of dialogue and banter :D I did a post earlier on where to get all the eps. If you have any hassles let me know, I might be able to help :D
