scherryblossom remarked that it was nice that I was able to be so 'flexible' in my fandoms and she's not wrong. I just looked at my account over at ao3 and I have written fic or created a fan vid for no less than 47 different fandoms ... maybe slightly less if you squoosh the various Georgette Heyer ones together. Admittedly, many of the fandoms only inspired one fic, but still ..
The main reason is that I'm a very shippy person. Below the cut, you'll see that I can pretty ship a blade of grass with a tree if I have to do so ...

Occasionally I can like a show without a ship, but as a general rule, UST, chemistry and romantic sparks between characters is very compelling for me. I used to only ship canon pairings, but over the years have ambled off the path as my imagination has run away with me.
It's funny, when I was younger I used to read a lot of romance novels. I don't do that anymore but from a fandom perspective, I seem to be shippier than ever. I think that it's because as I grow older, I am more intigued by the relationships/friendships/romances that are not the central focus of a story. I'm not sure if that makes sense. For a romance novel/romantic movie - the romance is the central element and the plot and characterisation tend to be more subsidiary or tertiary aspects.
These days, it's more interesting when the main plotline is the drama/the mystery/the something or other - with the possible friendship/romance between two characters something that's either just implied or mentioned only in passing. It's more romantic, more compelling and there's much more scope for the imagination.
