There was a small channel beneath the bench and the water drained into that :)

Oh goodness, that picture you took of the kea is stunning! Just read the wiki article on them and boy do they sound like cheeky parrots :P Did you encounter any kakarikis at all? We used to keep one as a pet and he was so cute. I'd love to see them in the wild.

What an incredible flight you took... No wonder geologists love NZ ... it's got everything for them lol! Volcanoes, mountains, valleys, glaciers, lakes, fields, alluvial plains, pancake rocks... :P

Thanks for sharing all these photos with us! You definitely have a lot of memories to go by.

We didn't see any kakarikis unfortunately - just a lot of wekas and keas :)
