Day 14 - Friday, 26 February: Omarama, Mt Cook and travelling to Christchurch
We passed
Lake Pukaki on our journey to Mt Cook National Park and village.
Along the way, our coach was stopped by strange pedestrians - sheep and sheep dogs :)
We passed through Twizel and although, alas, we did not stop there, Twizel is where the largest battle from the Lord of the Rings was filmed i.e. the Battle of Pelennor fields.
The hotel at the Mt Cook Village had strange taps. It looked like there was no sink into which the water would flow :)
At the village
From Mt Cook we
took a little plane to view Mount Cook and the surrounding glaciers.

It was beautiful. Not many comments, just lots and lots of photos.

Lake Tekapo.
We viewed the Church of the Good Shepherd and Collie Dog memorial.
At a brief lunch stop along the way, we saw these hideous strawberries.
Then there was the very long drive into Christchurch where we stayed at the Pavilion Hotel. Regrettably we arrived fairly late so there was no chance for us to see much of Christchurch at all - although we intend to go back one day because the city looks beautiful.
Photos of Christchurch to prove that we were there :)
Hideous artwork in our hotel room
Day 15 - Saturday, 27 February: Christchurch
We were collected from the hotel and taken to the airport by yet another friendly Kiwi driver. There was a flight from Christchurch to Auckland, then from Auckland to Sydney and then from Sydney to Canberra. It took us almost a whole day to get home and we were exhausted!
