Wrap and turn?

Jan 23, 2011 15:02

So, I've started this hat, and it involves a new thing for me, wrapping and turning. The wrapping and turning is easy, figuring out which stitch to do it to is not. This is from the pattern:

Row 2 (WS): k to 2 sts from end, w+t.
Row 3: k to end.
Row 4: k to 1 st from gap, w+t.

so on row 4, would that be the 3rd stich from the end, or the 4th?

I think that on the 4th row, you are w+t'ing on the 3rd stitch from the end.

I think the bolded Row 7 is NOT included in the 5 wrapped stitches at inner edge. If you count Row 2, 4, and the 3 repeats, that should equal 5 wraps.

Does the section you've written with the bold come immediately after Row 4? Because if so, it seems like there would be a total of 8 wraps on one side and 11 wraps on the other instead of the 10 and 5 stated. Hopefully, someone else can clear that up for you.

You are mis-reading. There should be 8 and 5, and counting from the pattern, That should be correct. If the bolded ones should be counted, it wouldn't work, which is why I was asking.

At the end of row 6, there are 3 on one side, and none on the other.
Row 7, 3 one one side, 1 on the other.
row 8, 4 on one side, 1 on the other
row 9, 4 on one side, 2 on the other
row 10, 5 on one side, 2 on the other
row 11, 5 on one side, 3 on the other
row 12, 6 on one side, 3 on the other
row 13, 6 on one side, 4 on the other
row 14, 7 on one side, 4 on the other
row 15, 7 on one side, 5 on the other
row 16, 8 on one side, 5 on the other

Thanks for your help :)

Oops. I don't know why I assumed you were repeating the last two rows 3 times. Guess I thought you had a really big head. LOL! I think it's an error. You should have 6 one side and 8 on the other if you count Row 7 and I can't see why you wouldn't count that row in the total.

I've made a couple of Urchins, and the way I kept track of which w&t's to count was with stitch markers that I moved on each row. You don't want to be wrapping the same stitch more than once or you end up with a too-large gap in the finished project.

Long story short, you want to wrap the next stitch over each time, so it would be the 3rd from the end on row 4.
