Do an online search for 'knitting graph paper' - there seem to be quite a few resources out there that you can print out yourself. As knit stitches aren't square, you'll need to adapt the patterns.

This has always been my favorite source of knitter's graph paper--it's got a lot more options than the site mentioned above.

I'd try a swatch with the pattern as already graphed for the cross-stitch, especially if you're going to do it in stranded work rather than intarsia. Stranded work pulls in laterally because of the stranding, and your stitches can really end up pretty close to square, and maybe close enough that it looks just fine. So I'd try what you've got before re-charting it.
