William had vowed to prove himself to the beautiful Elisabeth by returning with a rose from the mound in the centre of the woods.
He had heard the stories all his life, of the glowing lights and strange apparitions which appeared before disappearing without trace. He hadn't really believed until he'd seen the shattered light appear and then watched, hidden behind a tree, as strangely garbed men appeared from it, wandered around the clearing speaking in a unknown language, before vanishing back into it as if they'd never been.
Years later, his descendants still told the story to their children.
