James settled Jon in the scant shade provided by a lone outcrop of rock thrusting upwards from the parched land. He squeezed Jon's shoulder before joining Helen as she stared out over the desolation they still had to cross.

James wonder if they'd make it, Jon wasn't the only one exhausted, and they still had miles to walk across a harsh wasteland where dust devils played amongst the bleached and scattered bones of others who had tried to cross it.

“We'll miss the anomaly.”

James looked up at Helen, a smile flickering across his face. “Mad dogs and Englishmen, Helen.”
