A/N: For the P100 challenge 320: The Longest Day. Part 9 of my Strange Bedfellows drabble series.
The sun was merciless as they trudged across the wasteland, unable to seek shelter if they hoped to reach the anomaly before the guards - or predators - found them.
James helped Jon up when he fell; noticing Helen hadn't offered to help, not that they'd accept it.
“You have to leave me. I'll never make it before something finds us.”
“If you think I'm leaving you, Jon....” Lester trailed off, unwilling to finish that sentence.
“Gentlemen, if you've finished dawdling.” Helen gazed behind them. “We still have a long day's walk to the anomaly and something is tracking us.”
