I finished my project for the Knitting Olympics, and a day early at that! I finished yesterday evening, but didn't get around to posting a picture till now.

I think you'd like it better if you went with complimentary colors. Imagine something like (digs out color card) Winter Night, Rain, Fog, and Cloud? (blues with pale grey and off white) on a black background?

have you thougth about bias stripes or as you said, solid color (but with a motif of some kind, like one that you can find at anticraft?)
