Of Being a Literature Snob ... or Something Like it

When I was in college, I took the full American Lit series with one of the best profs I've ever had, period. Bill is ... snark, pure and simple.

The only real problem with Bill is that he knows his poets, and he expected us to know them, too. He whipped out Ginsberg one day - "Howl" if I remember correctly - and I was scared out of my mind. God.

The circuit training was HELL. She set up fourteen stations, and we did one minute at each ... THREE TIMES. It was a flipping forty-two minute endurance test. Ugh. I'm STILL worn out. :)

We read "Howl" out loud together, in a sort of unpolished chorus, and it scared me to death. And was AWESOME.

Wait ... were we in that class together? Or was that the class before it ... the 1865-1914 one? Cuz Ginsberg would've been 1914-present day. So ... Bill just repeated his lessons. :P

Hah, yeah. I always forget which we had together. After thinking, I remember that we read Sarah Orne Jewett - Melville's secret island lover - together, but it takes time for me to get there. :P

Now, if you want to talk about the writing fiction class we took ... in which we did nothing but chat about fanfic ... THAT I remember very clearly.
