Question, Slayed, and DUST teaser

Oct 11, 2010 00:00

I seriously need to upgrade my account. Six icons does not make KE happy anymore.

So, I'm working on DUST. I have a bad feeling it's going to be longer and slightly darker than I originally thought. This isn't a bad thing, though. Just a thing that I thought that I thought wrong about.

But I've got a question I've been unable to find a satisfactory ( Read more... )

Thanks for the teaser - this promises to be a great fic. I love snarky banter - well who doesn't? And you do it so well. So this is officially me spurring you on! Go you!

Thanks! This story will be full of snarky banter. You might even hate the stuff by the time I'm done with it. (I hope not, though).

This sounds intriguing. Why is Spike a houseguest? Can't wait to find out.

Now for a quibble. I'm not exactly sure what year Spike's Desoto is (late 50s maybe), but I don't think you could open the trunk without a key back then. However, I could be completely wrong.

I thought the same thing myself when I was writing this chapter, so I went and did DeSoto research. They had trunk releases in cab during that time period, though I couldn't find anything definitive on the exact KIND of trunk release that particular model of DeSoto has. I do know that it has a dash mounted rearview mirror (though Spike's apparently has been removed--with all the blackout paint on it he couldn't see out of the back window anyway, and they probably removed it in the show so as not to have to deal with the reflection issue). Also, pictures of that model show it with lots of shiny knobs and stuff along the dash... I'm assuming for the stake of storytelling ease that one of them might be a trunk release.

Yes, this is me and I'm anal about details. :)

I have a friend who is seriously into restoring vintage cars, and I asked him about this trunk release. This is his reply:

"That's kind of an obscure detail if you don't own the car, but the best I can figure is that the 59 Desoto Fireflite (not Fireflyte) probably had an electric trunk release that could be activated from the interior of the car. No doubt a fancy do-dad option. I reach this conclusion based not on some infinite knowledge of all things Desoto, but because I found a 59 Desoto remote trunk release relay available as a repair part on the web. Chrysler products were well-known for having many push-button conveniences built into the dashboards in the late 50's and early 60's. So my guess is that it would have been a relay activated electric button in the dash, but where in the dash is something that someone with a more intimate knowledge of vintage Desotos should answer."

That pretty much jives with my research, so I guess I'm safe to leave it, then. Thanks for asking for me. :)

I don't remember Buffy doing any spells except that one you mentioned in season five. But my memory has betrayed me in the past. So I don't know.

I have a feeling I'm going to love DUST! So much snarky fun! ^^

DUST *is* snark. It's long and plotty and they spend a good chunk of it absolutely hating each other and taking digs at one another. Hopefully the banter and snark will balance out the lack of Spuffy fluff. :)

Glad you love the banter, because there will be LOTS of it. This is a fairly banterrific story. Be prepared for at least twenty chapters worth of it. Probably more. ;)

I hear you (regarding the icons). That's why I got my first paid account, having only three icons. Back then they didn't have the sponsored ones.
Congrats for your win. :)

Can't help with the facts, it's too long since I saw BtVS. But I loved the excerpt.
