Car Woes Revisited

Feb 02, 2007 14:50

So ... after three and a half weeks, I finally have my car back from the shop (for those coming late here, I got hit in early January). Unfortunately, I'm seeing some problems with the car in the hour or so I've driven it since I got it back:
  1. I'm getting about 10mpg less than I did in late December and early January. This might be partially ( Read more... )

Sorry to hear that they've muddled something up with your car. Hopefully it'll be good as new Tuesday morning.

I'm going to be looking for a new car in a year or so. I'd be curious to hear what your thoughts on the Prius are after a year of ownership.

Good luck!

Well, after just shy of a month of actually driving it around, I love it, except that it appears to be an accident-magnet. Ping me again in a year, presuming that it's something more than a complete wreck at that stage. :)

What jerks did such a poor job?? That really stinks. :( I'd be demanding partial money back at that point (assuming the insurance didn't cover most/all of the expense) because it's just unreasonable.

I hope you can get things straightened out with a minimum of (additional) bother.

The insurance covered most of it, minus the deductible, which is still up in the air. The body shop itself, did a fairly good job, I think, and it's not something they could have actually noticed if they didn't drive the car around for more than 10-15 miles. Consequently, I don't really blame them for anything other than the delay.

That said, Quality Collision was the shop, on South Walnut. The owner was quite apologetic on the phone, so we'll see how this works out.

Jeremiah suggests that this might be caused by a sensor becoming misaligned or damaged in the impact- even one not immediately connected with the affected area. As a secondary guess, he says it might be the wrong sized pulley being used on the drive or crank shaft.

He also says the wait was to be expected when fixing accident damage, as body work is always slow.

Good luck!

The possible reasons why there is an issue with the car are all well and good, but it's going back into the shop where they can fix the damn thing correctly. :)

As to the wait, 3.5 weeks is somewhat excessive, particularly when they initially indicated that it would probably take a week to a week and a half based on the labor. It'd have been nice if they'd ever actually called me to let me know it was taking longer, though. I was forced to call them.

:(

Well, I hope the car is actually fixed-and-in-working-order soon.

Was it ever determined who, if anyone, was "at fault"?
