Cooking Weirdness

I recently read a thread on one of my favorite sushi sites regarding how to cook rice.  Few topics have such ardent partisans of multiple viewpoints (Except maybe the upcoming election, but I'm being facetious.) And one tip, which came from a Japanese cookbook, seemed so weird that I had to give it a try ( Read more... )

I'm not sure why a pre-soak works, but that's interesting; I'll have to try it. Apparently you can 'cook' rice in cold water in the absence of heat by just soaking it long enough for it to absorb the liquid. I haven't tried it though.

I use an automatic rice cooker.

I'm not sure but I may have forgotten how to cook rice on the stove.

Lucky you! I'd love to get one but it isn't a necessity nor do I have room on my desktop. *sigh*
