chicks and stuff
yep, all I do now is chickeng n stuff and facebook. Pretty much all day (starting around noon-ish) to sometime after midnight or so, is spent doing power tool stuff, almost finishing coops and pens, watering birds, stuff like that ( Read more... ) -
Outrunning the storm Fri April 15, 2011
We made a quick run to Mobile to watch Logan's soccer game and bring him back for spring break. No one told us we would be outrunning a tornado. Attack of the 10 ounce rooster
I've kept Aramis and Arturo seperated from Alejandro and his girl, but today they were all out together. Somehow, Aramis got ahold of Alejandro and beat him bloody. Aramis has just started crowing, but is a couple oz bigger than Al. I thought Al was dead. He came running out while I grabbed Aramis. I missed most of what happened next. messing around with birds
I'm trying to get all the cages and crates ready, cleaned and put aside for when I'll be needing them. I counted 8 definite quail roos, leaving me with 11 babies, some that are "possibles". The brain damaged one is a hen. I don't think she'll have problems with egg-laying. If she does, I'll worry about it then. One of my hens has a malocclusion ( Read more... ) -

12:00am update
7, one is a silkie. We weren't sure since the second group of eggs (5) the woman's hubby pulled the eggs. It looks like another of hers hatched, a Serama. Lots of color in there! 2 eggs left to zip. There are 4 that I felt were duds. Looks like they are at this point.

6 pipping! A couple stepped up to surprise me! Terry and I taste testing the spicy pickled eggs, and they are superb! The layers of flavor cannot be described!

PIPS! Day 20
two eggs have pips! So exciting! And nerve wracking. I so hope they make it! Terry brought home two Wyandotte/orpington mix roos from the person I got Coco and Shadow from. They're really nice looking birds. I think they could use a bit of fattening up before they go to the chopping block. And I'll get some pics.
