One Strap or Two?

It wasn't until I was probably in high school that back packs became popular for hauling your life to and from school. (Yes, I'm that old. Let's move on.) It seemed shortly after they burst onto the scene, a rash of news stories came out about kids getting back injuries and pulled muscles because, oh my goodness!, kids carry books in those ( Read more... )

Oh how I remember those days! I never, ever wore both straps and to this day I bet if I had a back pack, I wouldn't do it still. My niece wears a backpack and both straps are firmly in place when she exits the car as well. I wonder if she lets her slip at school? LOL. Probably.

I know - the only place I have two straps on is on the hiking trail because deep down, I think I'm still hoping to be one of the cool kids.

that is so cute! you should print this post out and keep it and show it to him once he can appreciate it

I remember those days. When I was in highschool it wasn't cool to have a two strap back pack we had army surplus satchels that were only really cool if you had graffiti all over them and holes!

After I left school they started bringing out the school bags that were deliberately one strapped

Woooow, that's funny and pretty interesting that he does that.

My right shoulder is significantly lower than my left. I have a lot of pain in my neck/shoulder on my right side. I wish I would have sucked it up and used the backpack correctly now, but peer pressure- what could I do?

I totally did that one-strap backpack thing. Then I got to college and it was physically impossible with all the books I had to lug around and I went back to the two-strap carry and didn't think twice about it. I'm sure my back thanked me. It seems so silly, but it is a good proxy for those years when it seems the need to fit in and peer pressure affect everyone.

I'm glad N is socially aware. It's an important life skill that can't really be taught.
