If anyone has any information regarding Dorian, I would much appreciate it.

Specifically, I'm looking for details on exactly how many memories need to be traded to buy an exit for someone from the City.

((OOC: For the curious, Kitty's trying to get Bartimaeus out of the City following this log.))

bartimaeus, dorian

A lot, and she tends to pick those you'd be better off keeping. If you're careful, there's no harm in going to her, but it's difficult to talk her down to a reasonable offer.

V and I've both tried.

You don't have any say in the matter? So she could just take away... anything? But it's safe to talk to her then? I can be very persuasive, maybe I could get her to agree to...

Y-you have?

It's not for me, I don't want to leave here, but it's for a... a friend.

She doesn't usually take anything without asking, but she can be persuasive, too. There was someone who bargained down with her for a week straight or so--she let him out in exchange for a song.

I have. That was in...June, I think? I wasn't in any state to reason with her when I went to see her. I was absolutely furious with V just then... The best offer she'd give me was a key out for all my memories of V.

Maybe there's hope then. A song might not be the thing for me, though (obviously) we both know how brilliant I am at singing, but... maybe I could...

I think I'm in a pretty reasonable state of mind now, it's just I'm so worried. But I'm terrified she could ask for my memories of... someone, you can probably guess who. And the thing is, if she did ask, what I'm more terrified about is that I... I might actually go through with it.

... I tried myself, Kitty. Her prices are high. Too high for me to want to pay.

After Kabuto-

Well, needless to say, she wanted a "Fair trade". Five years of my memories for his. Or my memories of him in exchange for his memories of me. Those were what I could talk her down to.

... Too high.

Shizune, I - I'm so sorry she couldn't help you. I had thought that maybe... I'm sorry.

I've heard how high they are, but despite that, it's really important that I find...

What... what do you think a "fair trade" would be for buying a way out of the City? Not for me, for someone else?

It's... fine.

From my experiences with her... I would think she would offer that you could never leave in exchange for letting someone else.

But I do not know what she will do. Or what she will ask.

I don't think you are but... all right.

I could do that. That's fair. And it's not as terrible as some other things she could do. My memories are...

I think I'll have to try and talk to her myself. I never thought I'd do this. I really... really do appreciate the advice.

Kitty-san, what do you need that for?

I don't... I mean, it's not for me. It's for a friend. He needs to... I can't let him stay here.

What's wrong with him? Is there anything I can do?

He's... sick. He's not human, his body isn't built like ours, and it can't take the City's atmosphere anymore and...

And I'm afraid he's dying.

That woman is not to be trusted, not only does she take away what most matters but those who have traded with her sometimes comeback.

Don't worry, I make it a policy not to trust anyone associated with the City. Call me paranoid. But you mean it doesn't always work? That's... It's not me I'm trying to get out, it's my friend.

I'm sorry, I don't believe we've met? I'm Kitty Jones.

Yes, I've heard of others bargining their way out only to return sometime later, occasionally suffering from partial or full memory loss regarding this place.

Why put your friend at such a risk?

Luke Valentine, you know my younger brother Jan.

I didn't know... and if he forgets everything that happened in the City then...

I don't want to put him at risk, it's the last thing I want to do, but if he stays here then he'll... he'll die. If I paid the price for Dorian, then maybe he wouldn't be in danger of coming back?

Oh, you're Jan's brother? It's a pleasure to meet you then, Luke. I don't mean to pry, but I had heard you were... missing? Are you all right?

This person can get you out of the City?

Dorian? Yes, she's gotten people out before, but you have to... pay a price. Which is what I'm concerned about.

What's your name? I'm Kitty, Kitty Jones.

Oh, nice to meet you. I'm Luke fon Fabre.

Me and my friend are looking for a way out...what does she charge?

It's a pleasure. Oh, I met a guy the other day who was looking for you! Called Guy, funnily enough. Did you find him?

She charges... you pay her in memories. You forget something and you gain something. I wouldn't recommend it unless you're... desperate.
