My faith

Today for about two hours we (athena's circle) discussed paganism at a campus-wide tea. Only a couple people who weren't in athena's circle were there, so it was basically an athena's circle meeting. I thought it was really great and prompted me to think about my own religion and religious upbringing. So, bear with me ( Read more... )

This is quite interesting. I think I had a rather similar upbringing - both my parents were raised Protestant, but they stopped going to church when they were in their teens, and they never took me or my siblings to church.
They also wouldn't let me join Girl Scouts out of concern that it would be too Christian (although they cited other reasons at the time). :/

Also, I'm glad to hear that your laptop is fixable!

I don't know exactly what I believe anymore. I think the base of it would be Pagan, but I can't say I believe in magick, I mean, perhaps certain forms of it, but not in the sense that you can make things levitate and stuff like that. I think people have the power within themselves to make things happen, but only if they have the will. (and let's face it most people are fucking lazy, so they don't have the will) I don't know if I believe in Astrology, but I like it and I think it's fun so I'm still "into" it he he. I think most of all I believe in respect, I think people should respect each other and the earth and all living creatures more. I also believe in kindness, why do people, without true cause, put negative energy out into the world? If you don't have a reason to talk bad about someone, and you don't need to be rude, then don't. That just enables the cycle of hate and meanness to continue. For example: if I hear someone saying something bad about someone, or if they come up to me trying to talk bad about someone, I ( ... )

I as you already know am a witch, not so much wiccan at this point on my religious journey....but a witch. I believe that I can send you a whammy if you hurt me bad enough (or those I love), but it is something I approach with alot of meditation because sometimes it is karma.(and being in a coven, I usually discuss using any kind of "whammy" magick first with the ones who practice with me) When I do spells I usually ask a certain diety (that I am familiar with) for assistance, as in I do not expect that diety to do all the work.....
"The lord helps those who help themselves"
Your views are very interesting. Religion is such a treat to explore! My HP has his masters in religion/theology. Our womens group has the most interesting conversations about diety, ritual.

I think that the use of the word "witch" is so interesting. It was actually one of the points of discussion at the tea last night: whether the word has negative connotations, reclaiming the word, etc. I love how paganism is just so diverse but it can be difficult at times because there can be little to unite two pagans in terms of belief structures. I'm going to be home for a short period of time in May, will you be having a meeting then?

Our womens group meets once a month.
When will you be here?
Ofcourse you are welcome at our coven meetings also (most are open)
Yes, to me paganism could mean buddhism, hinduism, druidism, really there are so many paths to paganism. It is really so facinating.
Wicca is a relativly new religion so there are still lotsa things to work thru......(and I know most do not agree that wicca is a new religion).....
