Introducing.. Casper

So, I am now a 'cat-owner'. Of course, quotations need to be put around the word owner since we know that no cat is ever owned, and in fact, all cats are 'people-owners'. But regardless of semantics, there is now another living, breathing being in my house - those of you who've been out on your own for a while understand how exciting that is. I'd ( Read more... )

hey. welcome to the club man! the servant life is great! i love zyr, he's mostly been fun. but sometimes, he's just a little shit. and you'll learn that quickly. oh, you may want to think of declawing sometime soon. it's expensive now, but you might end up paying for it later.

Instead of declawing, I'd recommend reading a few books like "Think Like a Cat." I fully believe that with proper training, you don't need to take the knuckles off a cat.

Yes, Josh, I said training. :) If you want a healthy, stable cat, you've got some work to do!

Congrats on the cat. But don't listen to Mr. Animal Rights - I recommend declawing as soon as practicable. It is an investment, but a worthwhile one... avoids future personal injury and property damage. :) I don't buy the argument that it's like taking off your fingers at the knuckles. I would say that it is more traumatic when the cat is older, though, so even more of a reason to get it done early when it's effects are negiligible.

Thanks for the tips guys.. Ideally, I'd like to go without declawing it. I'm not completely against the procedure, but it's just that if we went about cutting off dangerous, irresponsible, or reckless parts of human beings the way we do animals, there'd be a lot of neutered, armless men without tongues walking around... um, don't ask me to explain that comment...

Anyway, I need to do something, though, since it's already asserting itself on my furniture.. :)
