Title: Mind Over Matter
Rating: G
Pairing: Akiha/Umeda
Disclaimer: Very much not mine.
Summary: It's like an itch he can't quite reach or a thought he can't quite pin down, this feeling he refuses to put into words.
Notes: For
ninjatrauma who asked for Akiha/Umeda with the prompt 'more than words'. I was listening to
Someone Else's Life by Joshua Radin when I wrote this, so clearly, it is to blame for the sap content. Clearly. *shifty eyes*
It's like an itch he can't quite reach or a thought he can't quite pin down, this feeling he refuses to put into words. Annoying in the worst kind of way and always there, something that only gets worse the more he tries to convince himself it doesn't exist.
The idiot acts completely oblivious except when he doesn't, and then he's like a lazy cat, batting at this thing between them. Like he knows and is just waiting for the right moment to make his move.
It's a little like falling and a lot like drowning and nothing at all that he really wants to give a name to because names hold power. He growls and snaps, but no matter what he does or how hard he tries nothing works, nothing helps.
The idiot pushes and shoves in equal measure, outrageous and infuriating and always, always there. In his personal space like maybe he never quite managed to grasp the concept of such a thing and doesn't care to learn.
It's like the first time he found something that caught his interest and held, this thing he can't - won't - name. It leaves him vulnerable in ways he hates but will never, ever admit to even though he knows there's nothing he can do about it.
He knows it's a lost cause when the idiot smiles at him just so, small and genuine, and he feels everything around them settling into place like it was never a question of 'if', but a matter of 'when'. He should be angry, furious, but it's like the idiot knows and there's nothing left he can do.
It's like nothing at all like what he expected and everything he tries to deny with everything he has in him even though there's no longer any point. Light touches and soft smiles and knowing looks and a hundred other little things that need no words to be real, to always, always be there.
