I saw Bill O'Reilly on the Oprah show today, which in itself is hard to stomach. But the topic was child abduction, specifically talking about why children don't run when they are being held, what kind of fear tactics their aggressors hold over them, etc. Mr. O'Reilly was billed as an advocate for missing and exploited children, but I know that ( Read more... )

I heard about that and couldn't believe it either. It's just so mean-spirited, not to mention ignorant. And sadly when jerks like O'Reilly spout off on this stuff it fuels the ignorance in the general public. At prior workplaces I heard my co-workers make the most ignorant offensive comments, especially about battered women and rape/molestation victims, largely in terms of "why didn't they try harder to get away/part of them must have liked it." It just makes me so angry and when someone with prominence says stuff like that....

Well, it wouldn't take long for someone to turn Bill O'Reilly into a cowering PTSD sufferer too afraid to limp toward the door. It amazes me that so many people believe they'd be the bravest, most heroic person ever if they were in a terrible situation. They just over estimate their mental state and ability to withstand torture I guess.
