I laughed out loud at the horrible pick-up lines, and this was just lovely:
david nods and pens his address on the inside of cook's wrist. he can feel cook's heartbeat, quick and steady, racing beneath his fingertips, and he smiles. at least he's not the only one who's nervous, and a little flustered. he presses his thumb to the pulse, feeling. when he glances up at cook's face, he sees cook smiling down at him, like he knows.
Aww. And then David wrote on Cook's face, ahahaha!

during his second week, when he's working a shift as the maître d', a man in an expensive-looking black suit wearing a handcuffs-and-star necklace walks through the front door, and david thinks, oh, why hello there, and then, how could someone who looks like that possibly be having lunch alone?

just as david's about to turn around, the man reaches out his hand. "i'm david cook, by the way. owner of this - splendid franchise." he sort of laughs and rolls his eyes. "you must be new -- i haven't seen you before."
