*Rolls eyes* But seriously folks....

No, honestly, it's really aggrivating. So I'm talking to my parents today, trying to confirm some plans for the weekend, and ask about Saturday. I have 2 places I need/want to be, and was trying to make sure I could have the schedule mesh. So I'm asking my mom for some details to their end of the plans. I inform ( Read more... )

rant, furry, stupid, fur

Sounds like you need to drag Mom to RCFM. You should get her to go, and show her first hand all us "freaks". She may even have fun!

RCFM is a bit far, but ideally, I'd like her to come to one of the parades that Las and Vid and those guys do. Fairly neutral, very tame, and a good intro to fur.

And what really gets me was she was gung-ho about me suiting for PAWS and thought Vid's suit was "cute". And now this.... *sighs*

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that Kiska. =/ Maybe if she experienced some furry things first hand she'd change her mind about furs?

Nah, most furs I've met have been just fine. I can only think of maybe three off hand that fit your description. :) But anyway, if being selective when introducing family members to furries - my recommendation is to introduce them to fursuiters and artists only first. Why? Because it's easiest to explain the whole phenomena that way, as being related primarily to the artistic creation of characters and wildlife or anthropomorphic arts, rather than as being about any sort of life style. Close friends who are well behaved and happen to be furry can be good too.

It's amazing how one episode of one TV show can cause so many people problems. I got the awkward CSI-related questions from maternal unit a couple months ago.

I hear ya, I get that now and then. Ugh. And it's so .... slanted! I've now been to 2 cons and 5 fur meets, and not ONCE has it come anywhere near what CSI is like out in public. (room parties...are a bit different lol...but still...)

It's not the gay thing, it's not the animal thing....hell, I doubt it's the sex angle. I think it's the fact that it's not "normal" and it's "different".

I got guff about being in a car club (Since I'm a girl, I was obviously doing it to get guys /sarcasm), she didn't have one nice thing to say about my goth phase (god forbid, I dress in all black and hang out with people who do the same! ZOMG!), and when I was going to church and got involved in youth group way back when, she even found ways to gripe about THAT.

Cuz she had such a sparkling clean straight-and-narrow youth *rolls eyes* From what family has told me, she was quite the pothead, dated 2 or 3 guys at a time, and was always out seeing how far they could push the limits of the law.

You're obviously a big scary bad influence. With your paw symbols and your hanging out with people. Kinda like me and Pat. We're who your parents don't want you to be with our jobs and house and money and other such massively horrible things

Yes, omg, good influences! Shame! Geez, they like animals, they hold jobs, they aren't broke and begging.... these shennanigans must be stopped now!

I guess I should clear something up. My MOM is the ONLY one with a blatant problem with furry.

My dad is indifferent at worst, at best, accepting. He figures, if it's not illegal or dangerous, then why not?

My lil' brother has shown interest. Guarentee if he DOES have interest it'll be squashed quickly. *rolls eyes*
