(OOC: Note! This is an open post for anyone who needs Kirk in any way, shape, or form right now, so just drop on by even though its starting off with Kirk and Spock!!)

After the night with Bones, to say James T. Kirk felt like shit was an understatement. He felt hurt, and angry, and confused, and all over the place all at once. It made for... well ( Read more... )

Unlike Jim, Spock's day-to-day occurrences post-birthday had been altogether satisfactory. The flow of paperwork and crew matters settled into a comfortable pace, even with the quarterly flood of information that Command had been sending him continuously for the past week and a half. Confident about the rest of the day, he came to the captain's office for the morning meeting Jim had asked for rather suddenly.

The door hissed open and Spock stepped in. "Captain." He noted the cup of coffee on the desk, Jim's (lack of) posture, but said nothing more as he took his usual seat before the desk.

He could understanding returning their counterparts back to the Enterprise. It was reasonable, to return them back to comfort and safety, especially Spock, who had spent so much time with them already. But Nero (and Ayel, he presumed)? The only sign of the immediate flare of objection was the slow tightening of his right fist on the arm rest.

"You request that we transport the Romulans aboard as well." Clarification. It would be too easy to lose them in transit. Transporting was not a perfect science, after all.

Kirk let out a very slow breath. He knew, he knew what Spock meant. He felt it to, "...You know as well as I do just how I feel about all this. This... is bigger than you and me. Starfleet's on its way... it wants them. The Romulans, in our brig. Under the strictest security. No one goes down there without a guard, I need security to know that they are not allowed to leave someone alone down there. I don't care if you're down there, no power lower than mine is going to be able to dismiss them. Captain's code on the security lock for their cells, no one's going to be able to drop the barrier."

He looked to Spock, "I learned from our last prisoner." Captain Pike.

He looked away, so that his captain wouldn't be able to discern the immediate jumps his mind made, rebuttals to each and every of his precautions. A barrier that he had no authority to drop wouldn't stop him in the least. Energy could be rerouted, including that required to hold up the forcefield. Environmental controls could be adjusted, tainted, or eliminated all together. The logical side of his mind said that it didn't quite matter how they died, under his blade or through slow atmospheric asphyxiation, but just that they did, with corpses to prove it so that they would be unable to return through mysterious circumstances.

This Starfleet legality. Proving guilt that is already universal. Better yet, what was Starfleet going to do for him once Nero began spouting about his failures, his supposed malicious intent towards Romulus? Spock knew he would have to sit silent and stoic throughout the entire ordeal, just like the last time but now with added visual aids ( ... )

Kirk stood suddenly and moved around the desk, flopping into the other chair beside Spock and focusing on his face. "It's not." His voice snapped like a whip, "It's not. I don't care what reasons someone might want to go down there, I don't want them being able to get at our crew... or the other way around." His eyes were darker, focused.

He grabbed Spock's wrist suddenly, a flare up of anger/frustration/revenge tempered just barely by duty.

His jaw tightened as he looked down at Jim's hand at his wrist, a point of entry for all those distasteful emotions. Spock's own emotions were blocked by his own barriers, external and internal, so that all Jim would feel under his fingertips was warm skin and his rapid pulse. The grab was meant to tell him he wasn't alone with thoughts that mimicked his own, but the fact still held that they were emotions. He didn't want to be clouded with their interference. Only wanted one sharp point of cold logic, inarguable.

"Understood, Captain." Spock wrenched his wrist back.

Kirk's eyes narrowed at Spock's reaction, and he nodded, "That's all, Commander." It was a warning, nearly a threat, if Spock wanted to keep it that way. He wanted them dead under his bare hands, wanted blood smeared across the markings they had forced into his skin...

But he had to be a captain first, even if he didn't want to.
