Stuff left, stuff found

So, my trip to Orlando went just peachy, except for the part at the end where I left my credit card in Orlando International Airport. Oops. Fortunately, after pondering for a while I deduced which business it must have been left at, found their contact info, and they indeed had it and are sending it to me. And yes, I'm checking my recent ( Read more... )

How do you plug the car in? Will it adapt to any outlet or will there be charging stations? How much will the electricity cost versus petroleum?

Yeah, it has a built-in charger so you can more or less charge it off grid power. They'll install a little charging station in your garage for convenient charging, but you can also get an "on the road" adapter kit that'll let you just plug it to any old 110V or 220V outlet. Takes about 3.5hrs for a full charge from empty, it says.

Electricity costs whatever it costs, but they claim as little as 2¢/mile, so it must not draw all that much juice while charging. They also suggest it's great if you can get peak/off-peak rates on your electricity (some power companies offer it), since you can just charge it at night when it's cheaper.

This is all down in the FAQ on that site if you want more.

I'll read up more on it later... But those are always the things I'm curious about whenever I hear about electric cars. I'm all for getting away from petroleum, but I want to make sure it's also affordable. Heh, and if it's adaptable for standard outlets, you can bet I'll be pirating power wherever I'd park, if I can find an outlet. :p

Yeah, the *power* looks plenty affordable; pity about the car itself. I'd be buying one of these things right now if it weren't for the facts that:
(a) It is in the end an impractical (awesome) sports car with room for no more than 2 people and a bag of golf clubs,
(b) It looks like for now they're really only set up for sales and service in CA, NYC, and Miami (you pay plenty extra for delivery and service anywhere else), and of course
(c) It costs a bloody arm and leg. Though, really, a gas-guzzling sleek sports car of similar design could cost nearly as much depending on the model.

This week's DM of the Rings is particularly awesome.
Wow, that's fantastic. That's almost exactly how I felt during the movie! :) (I think I can see the sort of dramatic arc that Peter Jackson was aiming for, but I'm not convinced that it worked at all well.) Thanks for reminding me to take a look at that site again; it had been a while.

Bitchin' rims. I wonder who they licensed to make those. Also, Yokohama tires; Sir Mix-a-Lot approves.
