So, that was interesting. Yesterday I came to the conclusion that there was no way to get any use out of my car insurance for the window ($500 per-incident deductible for no-fault damage), so I got it replaced out of my own pocket ( Read more... )

At least you got the best deal on the window that you could, so it's less of a hit than it could be.

Many insurance policies have no deductible for window glass. (For me, it was all of 50c difference, or so)

It applied when I looked into it for a crack in my windshield years ago (which resulted in me just leaving it, since it stabilized and isn't really in my field of view), so I really doubt this one's any different.

It's nice that the guy's taking responsibility for it, it's so easy for him to just tell you he's sorry but that he's screwing you over on the money thing. That's pretty cool.

I'm guessing that DOT pays attention to how many complaints they get, and the cost of your window was significantly less than the effective cost of a complaint on his record (getting future jobs!). Still, very nice of him.
