Winter Anime 2010-2011

Well the Winter season is almost upon us (not so happy about this because I hate the winter) but the anime season looks better than usual. There are actually three series I am interested in. Not saying I will end up watching all 3 but you never know.

Yes I know exactly. Well at least we can all share in our dislike. Of course I am not going to really judge it until I see it (which actually I am not entirely sure I am planning to do) but the preview looks pretty dreadful.

I got the calendar for about US$32.00 and that includes shipping. I ordered it from Yes Asia although I had a $5.00 coupon at the time). So I guess without the coupon it would have come to about $37.00

From what I have seen besides a select few I think most people on that thread shared our opinion. But then again from what I have seen most of the people who now post on fm_alchemist are more Brotherhood/Manga fans.

But yeah I don't want to debate with anyone (which I admit is not always an easy thing for me to avoid when it comes to FMA). :)

Kuragehime doesn't really qualify as transgender, since Kuranosuke identifies himself as a straight male who just happens to wear women clothing sometimes (he doesn't even drop the "ore"). There's a difference between crossdressing and being a transexual. (And then there's Haruhi Fujioka, a straight crossdressing female who doesn't give a shit about gender conventions and doesn't even bat an eyelash at her bisexual okama dad. But she's special XD)

That said, I read some of the manga of Hourou Musuko, and it is cute and interesting. I'm really behind and got bored of it fast, but I'll check the anime version too.

The art in Fractale is gorgeous. It really stands out in the midst of LOL MOE LOL.

There's a difference between crossdressing and being a transexual

I know that. But then there is a difference between a transgender and a transexual too. :)

I always assumed transgender is a blanket term to describe a number of behaviors including cross dressing. But perhaps I was using the term incorrectly.

I looked it up and I guess you can say cross dressing is a transgender behavior but often (as in Kuranosuke and Haruhi's case) it doesn't necessarily mean transgender identity. So I guess I did use the term incorrectly. My mistake!

Anyways I am glad to hear you liked what you read so far of Hourou Musuko. Maybe it will be easier keeping up with the anime.

Yeah definitely it really stands out when you see all the typical ugly big doe eyed designs next to it.

I... honestly have no idea about the difference between transgendered and transexual, to be honest, as I always confuse gender with sex. *did expect someone to jump at her about that* It's just that in Kuragehime and Ouran they only crossdress that we know of. I just had it in my head since the other day was thinking that it was a pity that he was a CIS guy and not a MtF gal like I suspected when I read the summary. Meanwhile, I don't know if Haruhi doesn't really identify herself as either female or male because she doesn't give a fuck, or thinks of herself as a girl but doesn't give a fuck about pretending to be a dude. She's complicated XD

Quite honestly I get confused by all the different terms too because there are so many and there definitely seems to be a fair bit of overlap.

As for Haruhi I do somewhat see her different from Kuranosuke because I don't think she sees herself as a cross dresser. It just doesn't matter to her whether she wears male or female clothes (although I guess because she in the host club she was masquerading as a guy. Although I don't remember her ever saying she was, it was just assumed by the patrons.) But I think you would remember things from Ouran better than me.

As for other cross dressing characters well I thought of Oscar and Utena (In am sure there are others). I guess Kino too but Kino isn't really a cross dresser she just seems to identify with her profession not her gender,

I'm actually a little excited for the movie, but I'm trying to avoid promo material and just take the movie on its own when it comes out. ^^;

(Then again I was also one of, like, two people who thought a live-action film had the potential to be kind of spiffy. So I'm odd.)

So far all I'm been watching is Kuragehime and Yakumo (with a liiiiittle interest in Star Driver and eventually finishing HotD lol), but I definitely want to take a look at Fractale. :D

I wasn't that excited for the movie but then I am usually not too excited for FMA stuff not done by Arakawa. But I am sure you aren't the only one who is excited for the movie. :)

Kuragehime is the only thing I am watching this season but I think it's great. :D

You know I think the blogger might have made a mistake. I am not sure if Level E is slated for the Winter season. But it has definitely been green lit for 2011 so it's something to look forward to this year. I like Yu Yu Hakusho and early Hunter X Hunter so as long as it's not an ongoing series (has a set number of episodes) I am interested in trying it out. It sounds like a fun series. :)

edit: I'm wrong Level E is a January series. :)

Oh it's great to hear such an enthusiastic recommendation from someone who read the manga. The more I hear about this series the more I am really looking forward to it. It sounds like it will be a really wonderful slice of life series. I really love those. :)

edit: Just saw the trailer. It looks really good.
