Well the Winter season is almost upon us (not so happy about this because I hate the winter) but the anime season looks better than usual. There are actually three series I am interested in. Not saying I will end up watching all 3 but you never know.
Hourou Musuko
Shuichi Nitori appears to be a shy and quiet preteen boy, when he transfers to a new school he quickly makes friends with the tomboyish Yoshino Takatsuki who sits next to him. It soon becomes apparent that both Shucihi and Yoshino are more than simply a sensitive boy and masculine girl, they both are transgendered. Together they decide to take the first steps toward becoming the people they want to be.
Well okay I admit it's not so much the premise because transgendered characters are a dime a dozen in anime (in fact there is one in Kuragehime now) but I am shallow and I do like the character designs and the fact that both characters are transgendered. I don't know I think it could be cute. And I just realized it is also going to air in the NoitaminA block.
Level E
Tsutsui Yukitaka is a freshman who has finally convinced his parents that he is ready to live on his own. When he arrives at his new apartment, he is surprised to find that someone has arrived before him; A young man who claims that he is an alien and that he is suffering from amnesia. A series of short stories involving aliens on Earth
A sci-fi manga from the 90's which I never read but it sounds like a really interesting and creative premise to me. I am definitely interested in hearing more about this series. Plus I feel I have not seen any good sci-fi in awhile. Although this sounds like it might be more comedy than sci-fi. It is also by the manga-ka of Yu Yu Hakusho.
Fractale
The story is set on an island at the far reaches of a continent where the “Fractale System” is on the brink of collapse. A boy named Kurain embarks on a journey to search for Furyune - a girl who disappeared, leaving behind only a pendant. Kurain will eventually learn the secrets of the “System.”
This is the one I am most interested in. 1) It's the new NoitaminA series 2) Really intriguing premise 3) And I love the
art work Of course you never know with anime. A series you are most looking forward to can terribly disappointment you and a series that is off your radar can turn into something unique and special. But I am hoping for good things from Fractale.
Anyways here are the
rest of the Winter series courtesy of Star Crossed Anime. Don't necessarily agree with all of his opinions but it's a pretty thorough write up.
In FMA news I saw the new movie preview and all I can say is ugh (and I think that is putting my feelings nicely). Well my only happiness is they are doing a movie during the events of the series (or prior to them) so I don't have to worry about them messing with Arakawa's perfect ending.
But in better FMA news my calendar shipped today. It's crazy how long I have been getting the FMA: Manga Calendar. Prior to this I never got the same fandom calendar twice ever and this is my 6th year (unfortunately I missed the 2004 calendar).
