So Durarara

Jun 25, 2010 22:38

During the first arc of Durarara I had a discussion (I believe with rainmage and hamsterfactor) about which series I liked more Baccano or Durarara. At the time I said I wasn't really sure and was enjoying them both equally. In fact early on I thought Durarara even had the potential to surpass Baccano. In the end though that didn't actually happen and now I can say ( Read more... )

oofuri, baccano

I hate judging anime that is based on the same author, its like comparing 12 Kingdoms and Ghost Hunt and soon Shiki since theyre all by Ono Fuyumi, each series has its strengths and weaknesses ( ... )

I love you for bringing up Ghost Hunt and Twelve Kingdoms~~

I love Baccano but I'm only at episode 12 of DRRR, so I have nothing more constructive to say. D:

I guess I am comparing Baccano and Drrr because not only are they by the same author (and the same director in the anime's case) they also take place in the same universe and I feel they have a lot of similarities.

Juuni Kokki and Ghost Hunt are by the same author but I feel they are so different that I can't compare them in the same way.

I liked both, Im hoping we get more DRRR later since from what people have been saying the novels get really good later on.

I was thinking that some of my dissatisfaction with Drrr could be that Baccano's individual novels had better stopping points. I feel maybe this wasn't as much the case with Drrr. It would be interesting to see how the story develops later.

Although that being said I also wouldn't mind a Baccano sequel. :)

I've been eyeing the S.A.V.E. version of Pumpkin Scissors, so it's nice to know I can get rid of the green spine! Coincidentally, my last anime purchase was the Baccano! complete collection. :D

I am really glad it can supposedly be removed too because that thing is ugly. Although I don't want to say 100% until I get it myself.

Baccano was one of the last anime series I purchased too (but the singles). I think Honey & Clover was the last one I purchased in all though. :)

Durarara has not been licensed here yet but we do have Baccano. :)

Oofuri has actually been out for awhile and apparently it sold poorly so there is like no chance the 2nd season will be licensed. I guess I didn't help because I didn't buy it when it first came out and waited for the complete collection (but while I ;liked the series a lot it wasn't high priority for me I guess). .

I feel pretty similarly about the ending of Durarara. I think the first half of the series was a lot more engaging than the second half, mainly because I found myself not caring about all of the drama between Kida, Mikado, and Anri because it could've been easily avoided. I think that way too much time was spent on them, especially when there was such a huge cast of characters. They didn't even use half of the characters they introduced at the last half (like Shinra's dad) like I was hoping they would. I just think there was a lot of potential for something a little bit more exciting.

So, I hope that they pick it up for a second season along the line because I would love to see things get better developed than they did this season.

Yeah I think that was my problem with the drama too, most of it could have been avoided and it just felt like drama for the sake of drama.

And I agree about the cast. I think Baccano spoiled me. It had a huge cast but everyone felt relevant in the end.

I think too much emo was my problem too. I missed the humor and wildness of the 1st half.

You might be right about the episode length being the issue. I think this was the first Brainsbase series I saw that was 2 cour. My favorite from the studio (and also the same director) so far is Baccano and Natsume Yuujinchou.
