Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm also confident Arakawa will give us a spectacular ending and thus leave me in a big pile of goo after I'm done reading it :)
I know it's ending but I am still in a bit of denial about it which is why I don't think I have cried yet. I think I will really cry come July when I know a chapter is not coming out.
FMA has been the one series that I followed for so long that has not let me down in anyway. I love it so much.
I'm so happy I'm caught up now so I can finally read your posts!
That Al was running out of time was the same impression that I got... the seal was about to crack. Instead of letting himself die like that, he decided he would take the chance, however slim it might be, that he could save Ed so that Ed could still save him.
(I totally overdosed on FMA last night... I couldn't sleep for more than an hour after I read chapter 107.)
I don't understand why it's so hard to see that if Al hadn't done it, he would've lost his seal and "died" anyway. It was the very first thing I noticed from the raws, and the reason why I wasn't wanting to hit him with a trout. If anything, it was very smart (okay, stupid for worrying everyone and making Mei cry, but still smart) of him to take the chance to get back before he was screwed, because this way he was able to go to Truth and his body and Ed's limbs instead of... the afterlife or something? And yes, if I'm confident Ed will move things so Al is back, the more reason Al has to!
It's not hard but this fandom is notorious for comprehension issues.
I feel a bit bad saying this, but... I must agree. It's not everyone in the fandom, and maybe it's just because the huge fandom has so many people that there are also more people who don't understand. Or maybe it's because of the habit of looking at unclear, incomplete raws, jumping to conclusions and not bothering to check the facts after a HQ version comes out. Still quite facepalm-worthy at times.
Of course there are a lot of intelligent people in the fandom don't get me wrong. But to some of the fans I just want to say Do you actually read the manga?
I think Ed is going to get Al, (although it may be someone else who allows Ed to get to Al) but I just may be overly invested in Ed punching Truth in the face.
But whatever, I don't get those comparisons to the first anime because the first anime is completely different (thank god the manga is different)
I think schellibie made a good point that Ed will have to be involved in some way because of Ed and Al's connection to the doors of truth. And yeah I do want to see Ed punch Truth. :)
I think the comparison is extremely shallow and they are not looking at how different the circumstances and character motivations are:
I'm pretty sure it's gonna have to be Ed to get Al (though I also think Hohenheim will play a part in that) due to the connection between their Doors and whatnot.
I never once got the impression that Al was sacrificing his life. He WOULD'VE died if he didn't do what he did.
(A side note: I am now convinced that Scar can't die, because MAY DOES NOT NEED TO CRY ANY MORE D:)
Actually you are right that it probably will have to be Ed because of the connection between their doors but I can see Hohenheim telling Ed to use his philosopher stone to get through the doors without having to sacrifice anything. Not that I want Hohenheim to die but he has lived a long time....

It's so exciting to have so many people on my FL reading FMA when it's so down to the wire like this. ♥

I agree it just shows how smart Al is and he is not going to go back on his words to save the world and get their bodies back. :)
edit: Although to be fair I should make clear it is only certain people in the fandom who don't realize Al would have died anyways.
