It is nice to finally see the FMA manga story animated. But I don't think it is as good as the manga deserves so I enjoy it to an extent but I am also frustrated to another extent.
But hooray for the new chapter. I know I will be happy with that. :)
Almost 20 episodes down now and I'm still on episode 2. Should I bother marathoning it or wait a bit longer? From your posts it sounds like things vary from episode to episode, I was just wondering if it was really worth the time.
Well my real advice would be to read the manga but I guess if that is not an option for you than I would say give Brotherhood a chance. Most of my issues with the series come about because I am such a big fan of the source material (and I know it can be better if they didn't change & cut certain scenes) So things that might bother me might not bother someone who is not familiar with the manga.
I know lots of people who are watching it who have not read the manga who are enjoying the series just fine, especially now that it is past what the first series covered. But for you it might not get interesting until episode 14 which is where Brotherhood and the 1st anime split.
The manga is still on the agenda, but at this point I'm waiting for it to finish before I start reading it. I completely understand about the whole source material thing.
See, my thinking is thus: 1) I watch it first, then read the manga and think "oh, the manga did it better what a waste of time". 2) I read the manga first, then watch Brotherhood and think "argh, it didn't do this bit from the manga" or "it got this wrong!".
I think about relatively inconsequential things way too much.
If you are planning on reading the manga anyways you should just read it now and not wait. It's not going to turn into the next Naruto and go on forever. In fact it's in its final arc now. So by the time you catch up it will be almost over. And I am telling you there is nothing more thrilling than reading a new FMA manga chapter each month. The honest truth I have never been disappointed in a single chapter and I have been reading it for 5 years. :)
