Darn You Amazon

Jul 08, 2008 11:56

So yesterday Amazon shipped my Fruits Basket manga early so I thought maybe they would ship Gurren Lagann today. I checked and the regular edition of Gurren Lagann is out of stock on the first day of its release. WTH? They should at least have enough copies to fill pre-orders and then some. Isn't that the point of pre-orders to have it in time for ( Read more... )

Well at least that means the first GL DVD is probably doing better than they expected? ^^;

Oh is anyone else besides me really disappointed in the license announcements at AX?

I am happy that I'll be able to buy Hellsing again, and happy to hear that Viz is looking to get Monster sometime next year, but overall...yeah. :/

Well I hope so but on Amazon it isn't even listed on Bandai's top 50 (which doesn't make sense to me I am wondering if they just haven't counted the sales for it yet). I do really hope this means it is selling really well.

It's great that Monster is finally licensed but with Viz I wouldn't trust anything they say about anime releases unless it is for Bleach/Naruto/Death Note. They seem incapable of releasing anything else. In fact they didn't even announce Monster officially apparently it was just an offhand comment. Why they would not make a big announcement for such a great series is beyond me but then its Viz. :/

Well it sounded to me like they're trying to get it, but haven't yet, and that's why they haven't announced it. I believe what I heard is something like "TV/DVD rights, anything we can get." And I dunno, I think they have a good idea of how good a series it is, considering how they've promoted the manga. If they do indeed get the TV rights (which they seem to have been fighting for for a while), I think they'll be pushing to put it on Adult Swim or something, because otherwise DVD sales might not be too good (and I hope they have the sense to go for box sets).

Well the manga/anime divisions are separate to me. Besides some crummy translations and edits, Viz handles manga releases pretty well. Anime is a different story.

I hope the series gets on TV (maybe I can promote it to my friends then at least show them that anime can even do adult realistic thrillers) but I don't think it is the type of series that is going to garner the type of sales numbers like Naruto and Death Note (even on TV) which means Viz won't care about it. Although I really dislike Viz so that adds to my pessimism of course.

And I would be surprised if they didn't do box sets for such a long series.

Oh I actually order from Deep Discount all the time. Although for some reason when I pre-order stuff I go through Amazon (I think I might start going through Rightstuf in the future though since they ship their DVD early)

But with Gurren Lagann I had an Amazon gift certificate and I just got another one for $200 so I will be ordering from them for awhile at least. :)

And yeah it looks like Bandai screwed up if 3 places are out of stock. :/

I just found this on the AnimeonDVD forums and it might explain why they're out of stock so quickly:

In an unrelated note, Bandai informed us today that they intend to print only a small circulation of the subtitled volumes of Gurren Lagann. They don't want it around later this year when they announced the dubbed version due out in 2009. This means the subtitled version is only going to be made available for a short window of time (maybe 2-3 months) before they let it fall out of print, so if you are intending to buy it we suggest to move it to the front of your list of things to buy.

That sort of explains it but how can it be sold out on the first day of its official release? I pre-ordered mine too and it isn't available to ship. I mean they should have at least made enough to fulfill all the pre-orders? D:

I hope you get your Gurren Lagann DVD soon! I picked mine up at Anime Expo and in general Gurren Lagann seemed very popular there.

Also, at your urging and the recommendation of a few other people on my f-list, I got the first boxset of Toward the Terra. :D I'm looking forward to seeing it!

I figured there wouldn't be many license announcements, unfortunate as it is. :/

Well I called Amazon very frantically about it and they said they do have a copy set aside to ship to me. They are just holding off shipping it until Toward the Terra is available (which I also pre-ordered). Something about them being from the same warehouse because my Fruits Basket manga shipped as soon as that was available.

And Toward the Terra is amazing. I hope you enjoy it. I am jealous you already got your copy. :)

Oh good! I'm glad it's working out, then. :)

Based off what other people have said about Toward the Terra, I think I'm going to love it. I only rarely buy things that I haven't seen yet, so that shows how confident I am in it.
