So this character is often my favorite type (although I want to stress that often does not mean always) but really this character is not always the same and I can think of at least 5 main types of this type of character.
actually everything you've listed above is my fav type as well.
If i were to describe them in ouran HS type, I also like occult chara. The chara who can see ghosts and is kinda quiet and gloomy XD
I also like the normal guy who's got heroic sense of justice XD But on the WRONG side of the group! Like he's on the bad side... but he's NOT a bad guy XD Like say.... Dominique from Eureka 7 and Viral from Gurren Lagann.
Another I like is a character who's full of hypocrisies. He means and says one thing and does the other. Like how Gokudera is smart guy but extremely rash for someone who thinks so logically. Another being Suzaku from Code geass. Or Hikaru from Ouran Host club.

yeah this I listed under honorable villain. I used to like this type of character more but I think I get frustrated by their development.
Still Viral is one of the best of these type of characters. He constantly develops throughout the story and he is a completely different character in the end. I think he is one of the few cases where I am happy with where this type of character ends up. But Simon sort of upstages him for me. :)
I think alot of characters has more than one category. the deeper the character, the more category they can fall under.
As for sasuke, i think at first he was just the "cool guy who's the main rival of the main character who's the hot head" then i think he got the "tragic character who's the last of his family." kinda like Vegeta.... then added the "Guy who's out to get his revenge." etc etc...
Snape... well.... i haven't thought about that one. hmmm
yeah my issue with Sasuke is I could actually put him 3 categories (Fallen Hero, No Evil Villain, and Honorable Villain). Although I do think most characters fall mostly into one of the groups.
I probably could have put Isako and Kyo in their own group the character who acts tough but is really a lonely kid/teen underneath. And not to mention both their stories have more of a slice of life than adventure feel.
I am fighting the will to say that Kyo secretly fought Yuki more as a scapegoat away from his own shame and self hatred, more than trying to not be locked up, because he actually seemed ok with that idea in awhile (unless you are talking about just the anime, because then whatever argument I make goes out the window, although I don't think Kyo being eternally locked up was ever mentioned in the anime, it has been awhile since I read it.)
And I maintain Light was always both the villain and the hero, although I don't really know who is the hero of Death Note, because Light just makes a better villain.
Keep in mind that by the time Kyo had accepted being locked up he was no longer fighting Yuki any longer. He had really changed at that point and he was just happy to be around Tohru for his remaining days. I think the story made it very clear that Kyo fought Yuki to be accepted into the Zodiac but in the end he realized that fighting Yuki would not change his fate and things just changed naturally over time.
I don't think Light was ever the hero of the story. He was the protagonist (which is different from a hero, it's just odd that a villain is a protagonist) but I am pretty sure he was always a villain even if his intentions were initially good.
I tend to be a bit ambivalent towards these types of characters. I don't OMG LOVE them, but I don't dislike them, either. However, I do generally find them quite interesting regardless (especially from a psychological standpoint), and I agree with these classifications
