Some Anime First Impressions

These are my first impressions of the anime season. They are mainly for the first episode. Knowing how things are with me I will probably drop some of these and pick up other series later. First episodes are never enough to tell if a series will be good but well you need to start somewhere.

I think Code Geass is a fun series if you don't take it seriously. And I do think Lelouch is an interesting character.

And I dropped Gundam 00 after about 6 or 7 episodes. It wasn't bad just wasn't keeping my interest. :/

But thank you for the recommendation. I watched the opening and that was really cool. Do I need to have seen the original Macross to understand it?

I've been staying away from Code Geass ever since I saw the Lelouch C.C. butt-grab illustration. -_-;; There's just way too much fanservice subtext in that series for me (that and something about the anime's art style bugs me :p).

I think you should still give Gundam 00 a try though. It does start out kind of slow but after about episode 10 things really start to happen. And for your first gundam show I'd say 00 is a good one to watch because it's one of the better series in the gundam franchise of late.

Honestly there really isn't that much fanservice in the actual show. I mean there is some yeah but it's not excessive. The magazine articles make it worse than it is. There is also something called picture dramas (like drama CDs just with pictures) that have a lot of fanservice. But those are ridiculous and not even part of the actual plot. And I hate fanservice also, trust me. But it's just something that is a part of anime.

Although there are a whole lot of other series I would recommend above Code Geass like Terra e, Dennou Coil, Mononoke, and Baccano for example.

I might watch Gundam 00 eventually but it's not on the top of my list right now. :)

Okay, I don't know if you were going to watch Toshokan Sensou or not but while I thought I won't enjoy it, I checked out the first ep on a whim and it's actually not bad IMO - if the subs come out you should try it too (that is if you weren't going to already, being involved in libraries and all)

Maybe the library/books aspect isn't so well done but it isn't dead boring as I had expected it to be, there's some life in the characters - perhaps bordering on the edge of certain stereotypes but not annoying enough for me to mind...

Darn Japan why do they release so mant good series in the spring and all the mediocre stuff in the fall and winter. This is going to be a busy term for me so I definitely can't follow all these series.
