So today there was an announcement that there is going to be a Gurren Lagann movie. Most of the fandom is jumping for joy but you know honestly I am not. The movie is going to be a few things ( Read more... )

Well, whenever they were asked whether they'd make any more, they always talked about wanting to do something from the 7-year timeskip. So I think that's a good possibility. (Though I'm personally hoping for a continuation of the drama CD AU because that would be fun and wouldn't mess with the original story...not sure what the odds of that are though.) And I doubt it would be a sequel because they intentionally made the story have a conclusive ending ("we wanted to write it to the point that we can't go any further").

But speculation aside, right now I'm trusting that as long as it has the same staff, whatever they make will at least be interesting. I think both Imaishi and Nakashima are creative enough to come up with something new rather than just a rehash/retelling.

Gainax is a company that likes to milk their properties just look at NGE and they already talked of GL as a franchise, so I don't have much faith in them in that regard. :/

The movie could be very good I guess I am just not going to get all excited and get my hopes up. But of course I hope you are right and I am wrong in this case.

Well, Imaishi and Nakashima have their own standards of quality to adhere to. From what I've read and heard of them, if it was just a rehash of the series, I think they'd get bored and tired of doing the same thing over. The show only ended last year, not to mention they've already been fixing/adding things in the DVDs, so it would be pointless to do a remake of it so soon. In ten years maybe, but not now.

I hope I'm right too. *crosses fingers*

Hn, I really don't think there is anything else they can possibly do with GL except to make a GARlock alt. universe story (if they do that, sign me up... being a Harlock fan makes me especially receptive to GARlock).

Even a story about what happened in those seven years would be not very interesting to me. There's a reason they skipped over those seven years in the TV series, I think. The establishment of government and building of cities is something that just doesn't really fit in with the whole spirit of the show.

I guess I'll hold out for GARlock, though it's a pretty sure thing I'll watch it whatever it ends up being, and just hope to not be totally disappointed.

Although I was one of those people that was fine we never got the prologue scene I do think the idea of GARlock Simon and his adventures would be the best bet for a movie. It would be an alternative universe with all the same characters. That would actually be a lot of fun.

Hmmm I only like anime movies if they go with a concept that is still in the manga. Why cram 27 epis into 2 hours with new animation that Im sure wont be alot. Im with you, I say skip it.

Btw I dont know why but I love seeing Kamina shake his hips in the caramelldansen vid XD He looks so sexy.

I am not sure how Gainax is going to handle this movie, but from what I've seen very few anime movies based on previous series turn out well.

LOL suddenly you made me think of all the characters looking like they do in the caramelldansen videos. Now that would be a movie to see. XD

I agree. The only thing I would be really interested in is stories from the seven years that skipped. Now that I would enjoy. Other than that... I don't know. ;__; I'll watch it regardless, but I'd kind of rather they leave the series alone. It's so wonderful as it is.

I hope it will be new material since it is so soon after the series ended but then I don't have much faith in anime movies based on series or Gainax in general.

Well I am sure the movie will look awesome at least.
