In which Kippur is mildly confused...

A friend of mine is running an astrology birth chart making business where he'll print your birth chart on a really nice background to hang up etc. He recently emailed me wanting to know if I'd be interested in doing a commission. The customer wants a background with Tarot cards on it ( Read more... )

Well...

I guess you could include:

The Fool
The Empress
The Emperor
The Hierophant
The Lovers
The Chariot
Strength
Justice
Temperance
The Sun
The World

Ace of Cups
Two of Cups
Three of Cups
Six of Cups
Nine of Cups
Ten of Cups
Page of Cups
Knight of Cups
Queen of Cups
King of Cups

And I don't see any snakes on the Wands. (The Ace, Two, Three, Four, Six, Nine, Page, Knight, Queen and King look mostly positive.)

Swords and Pentacles are right out, though. Swords all cut both ways, and the Pentacles are, well, PENTACLES.

I was thinking salamanders in regards to the wands - which could be snake like.

Doesn't the lovers have the Tree of Life and the snake in it? I don't have my deck with me to check.

The Pentacles confuse me. At least in regards to this. I mean they deal with good fortune and things like that, how could you not want that on a birth chart?

Oh, btw do you want a CaveBorn Swallow tail? (I somehow ended up collecting three of them last night)

Sure! And thank you!

I know. People are weird.

Oops, you're right about the Lovers, at least in the Rider-Waite Tarot:

Those are nice! I also like the lovers from the fairy deck I have but that maybe too... witchcraft.. I dunno.

We'll have to do a trade then when I can access the cave tonight. Work has fire-walled it.

They want the occult "feel" to go with their occult astrology, hence Tarot.
But they don't want anything overtly "bad", because they're deluded and trying to convince themself they're a "good christian".

I would reply to your friend saying "No witchcraft? The entire Tarot is witchcraft. This is impossible."
Wait for further instructions

That's kinda what I was thinking. Still bizarre for me.

Actually I sent a message similar to that to my friend. Will see what happens.

You could always go with the Voyager Tarot.
It's pretty much one big acid trip

Happy cards? So they want a My Little Pony: Tarot is Friendship deck?

kippurbird April 29 2011, 20:46:20 UTC
Yes, but they're MAGICAL ponies.

Wouldn't work.

Maybe replacing the suit of pentacles with the suit of smiley faces could work.

But it's happy colorful neon girly magic! With ponies! Not that icky, historially backed magic that makes kids who read Harry Potter turn to the occult.

the suit of smiley faces could work

Troll face tarot deck...my brain just slapped me.

It could work.

3:D <-- King
}:D <-- Queen
):D <--Knight
]:D <-- Page

And then all the rest of them would just be a :D, with the number depending on the card.

In regards to to the girly neon magic... perhaps.

It sounds like they're one of those religious people who don't think astrology is really not allowed, just sort of winked at. I'd make The Empress as the Virgin Mary. And yeah, include the fool, totally. In other news, before I got more religious I collected tarot decks. If you want stripped down I can show you my stick person tarot deck. I think I also may have a Hello Kitty around here somewhere....

I've seen the stick figure deck and I've heard of the Hello Kitty one.

They both disturb me.

One more reason to own them!

I'd also like a copy of the Eighties deck ^_^
