Part Nine

Max goes and lands. She hides behind a warehouse and ties her windbreaker around her neck....

HOW THE HELL IS SHE WEARING A WINDBREAKER WITH WINGS?!

Why does she even have one in the first place? And how does tying it around her neck hide her thirteen feet wingspan? She pulls them into a tight accordion …

Look! Accordion wings!

Arizona has a rule that you have to be 18 years or older to use a gun by yourself. Younger than that, you have to be supervised by a parent or a legal guardian (or a few other very specific circumstances). And in every state, regardless of their laws about owning and carrying, it's still illegal to wave them around in a threatening manner at little girls.

So, yeah, nothing about what these boys are doing is covered by the Second Amendment. I love my Second Amendment; why do people keep abusing it? :(

Also, I can't for the life of me figure out why a windbreaker tied around the neck would hide someone's wings. I'm imagining those stereotypical preppy kids with the sweaters tied around the shoulders for no good reason...yeah, those don't hide much of anything. At all ( ... )

Even the artist for the manga couldn't figure out how to deal with the magic appearing/disappearing wings and appears to have just treated them as exactly that. Magic. No attempt to draw them under clothing or draw holes in clothing that might accommodate wings, nope, they just stick through shirts and appear and disappear as the text requires. (Not that I blame the artist, mind, because that's exactly how they seem to act in the book.)

There is so much failure to think things through in this book it's really quite amazing. Yet another one-draft-wonder, I'm thinking.

That picture is freaking awesome. Now wouldn't that be really convenient for every single winged mutant ever? It could be a separate superpower =P

I haven't ever read Max Ride and now that I know this chapter exists, I never will ^^

Serious case of the Idiot Ball, left and right! Guh, I think this might be why she goes to the Vet. But uh... wow. Couldn't we have skipped everything up until now and just have Max shot by Ari and then they go looking for a Vet they can trust? Or, you know, ALREADY HAVE one since they must have gotten sick at least once or twice. And, well, vaccinations maybe. Little kids tend to get those to avoid the really nasty diseases, like Polio and stuff. :I

I'd be much happier if they already had a second adult that they trusted. That would make more sense in the long run, after Jeb disappeared.

Can Sloan show up and give these kids an earful? We need Sloan! :I
