2 and 3 wouldn't be really "unpopular" just "things that go against another trend of thinking" but I have had discussions about 1 which have gotten very meta in the past (Like, Gene intended for the ST future to be as ~ism free as possible, he just didn't realise how ~ism free it could be, so we should just take his meaning rather than his words) which is not my way of thinking at all when it comes to canon.

4 rolls with the whole "characterisation of Chekov" thing which is a bit irkish and also TOLSTOYYY *grip* which I love as backstory, but cannot integrate into my actual canon. Also, I'm talking out of my arse when it comes to XI!Chekov, as we all are, so it's not in any way the only opinion. I just don't see how I can link TOS!Chekov to XI!Chekov without the same crappy background which made TOS who he is.

5 is common as crap, unfortunately. Usually because some RPSers are guilty as shit for "breaking up" a family, so if they can insert a throwaway "the wives are fine, btw!" mention, they will. BUT I NEED ANGSTTTTT

1. Well, yeah. TV is about people interacting in interesting ways. Everything going smoothly is boring. And while plot-of-the-week is interesting, it's the character interactions we all hunger for. Friction between people makes interesting TV. And frictions that relate to the current world are most likely to resonate with people ( ... )

1. Star Trek has a real case of "HUMANS HAVE OUTGROWN YOUR TRIVIAL PROBLEMS, PSHTFT" and I think it's the fact that the dynamics explored in ST are always human/alien, and not human/human, so the character interactions are usually tight and nice and sweet. In a fandom perspective, it's usually not alien-of-the-week, so there has to be a little angst.

3. But NO OTHER TREK has hyposprays hurting. The EMH blitzed a Pon Farring Vulcan, who didn't feel it. And there's no needle - it's a gush of air which is so fine it can be absorbed by the skin. Anyway, that's my opinion, heh.

4. Ah, good for you. I obsess over this. You're far healthier :D

5. RUN AWAYYY

1. Good point - although does B'Elanna come under human/human (for being half human and crew) or human/alien (for being half Klingon)? I think that humans never entirely outgrow things - we're far too fond of our tatty old baggage.

I think that we may be getting a skewed vision of 23rd/24th century human civilisation because we're seeing it through Starfleet. Starfleet are the best and the brightest - those most capable of interacting well with aliens, the smartest, the best, the most adaptable, the ones with the explorer mindset. We haven't really seen many ordinary humans. For all we know, they're socially behind Starfleet, which explains quite a lot.

To be honest, I always wanted a Star Trek series about a merchant ship or a cruise liner or a smuggler. I wanted to see the real universe, without the glow of Starfleet in the way.

3. The EMH blitzed a Pon Farring Vulcan. I would imagine said Vulcan (Vorik?) to be a little distracted at the time. Also, the EMH has precision programmed into him ( ... )

1. Yes, I'd go along with that. :/

2. Along with DS9, ENT is the other ST show I have absolutly no knowledge of - exceot the was a Admiral (Caotain?) Archer who had a beagle.

3. I think they do, normaly they just take it like the manly men ... or womanly women that they are. Jim's just running about and doesn't like people jabbing stuff in his neck. ALso, I hate needles. O_o

4. I usually have a cold and distant Andrei, tbh. Although my head-canon is far from what the norm is wrt Sulu and Chekov's families. Chekov's mother is usually not in the picture either, but whether that is because she is dead, disaffected and busy or otherwise "indisposed" depends on the story.

5. What? Are you saying that Nicky and Davey's love is not to be? :P

I'm with Chys and shall be staying out of this one too. Just gonna do some writing and see about that Chospam.

2. It's... kind of worth a look? DS9 is more worth a look, though - I suggest watching that before daring to look on the wondrous Shirtlessness of Scott Bakula.

3. But there are no needles in hyposrays!!! Hyposprays force a very fine, compacted gas of the medicine, so fine that it can pass into cells! THIS IS THE PROBLEM D:<

4. Aw. I generally think that Chekov's mother was probably a normal mum, but dying so young would make Chekov love her even more and idolise her.

5. Pshhhh it is to be; as long as you ANGST THE WIVES.

2. I've heard not-so-bad things about DS9... altho they seemed to be about some skinny chap who I think is supposed to be British being totally gay for some veiny guy. (Garak? he's what, a Cardassian?)

I googled Scott Bakula. IDK, his shirtlessness don't impress me much.

3. OIC. Then why is McCoy always ripping Jim's shirt to administer them? (Okay he only did that one time but still)... Hrmm... so with a hypnospray you absorb the medicine ... by osmosis? I see problems with this... but dammit I'm a software programmer not a biologist!

4. He's a twenty first third century digital boy
He don't know how to live but he's got a lot of toys
His daddy is a lazy middle class intellectual
His mommy's on Valium, so ineffectualOh shush. You're a bigger angst whore than I am ( ... )

1. YES YES YES ILU YES.

Even going from a purely social/historial pov, humanity is not going to SUDDENLY ALL BE MAGICALLY ACCEPTING AND OPEN MINDED ABOUT EVERYTHING. Not gonna happen, no way, no how. Reduced, yes but not eradicated.

2. Ooooooh I really really like this idea. I think my headcanon is going to adopt it.

3. Agree. Circumstances/what you are being shot with can probably make it hurt, but the whole point of them was sorta that they don't. I tend to think it's about on the level with a pinch and nothing more.

5. Helloooooo reason I can't get into RPS most of the time.

1. The very existence of TOS Bones proves that theory. His constant rants about "cold-blooded Vulcans" and "bloody Klingons" would have been amusing if they weren't so wrong. Thus, TOS!Bones is my least favorite TOS character.

2. Interesting theory. I do not ignore the existance of Ent, though sometimes I wish I could (Archer was the worst Starfleet Captain ever - and he managed to achieve that before SF existed - and Porthos was an epic dog of fail)

3. But you can set them to hurt and this is exactly what Bones is doing. Cos he's evil ;)

5. I ignore RL spouses completely.

1. He is SO RACIST. I know it was for the lulz, which is why I don't hold any grudges, but ohmygod racist.

2. Pshhhhh it was all new! They didn't have a SF backing to save their ass. Of course he would make mistakes /huge Scott Bakula crush.

3. Ahh, now, that I can believe.

5. *high five*
