Re 1. There is a(n in many ways) ridiculous ST:TOS book called "Crisis on Centaurus" that features a xenophobic and racist splinter group of humans that ends up spawning a few terrorists (and a major bombing). They are rude to Lt. Sulu.

Agreed or neutral on all of the ST ones ( I don't have strong feelings on Pavel's parents).

On the RPS one, well... IDK if you know this, but I'm in a polyamorous marriage. It is possible for some people, including me, to be okay with and even happy about their spouse being in love with someone else as well as with them. It takes negotiation and communication, and of course there is some angst sometimes, but on the other hand being monogamous would be way angstier for me.

Not that a lot of people don't get poly and open relationships wrong in fic. Because they do. But it is possible.

Okay, first off, I have no idea about polyamorous relationships at all. I am going into this blind. However, there are two reasons why I feel a "polyamorous" relationship in a RPS fic is likely to not mirror a true, reality polyamorous relationship, and that's why I still think that it's a very bad thing to do.

Firstly, there's always the tendency in slash to make the two guys OMGLOVERSFOREVERSOULMATES which unbalances things a bit. When a guy goes "it's alright - the wife doesn't care" I have never seen any indication that the guy cares about the wife.

Secondly, and now I'm talking out of my arse, I'm not sure whether a 15 or 17 year old previously-two person marriage can suddenly become polyamorous without deep counciling/angsting on the two parties? And there never is that through a throwaway line. It's the same problem I have with "IT'S OKAY THE WIVES ARE BANGING SOMEONE ELSE TOO" because... it assumes that double-cheating won't cause pain on either side, because it's "equal".

I hope that makes sense?
