Arthur/Merlin, modern AU.

Merlin is an indie geek who works at a used books, cd and record store. (And by indie geek anon would like the whole stereotype. Listens to weird rock bands, read obscure books, big black framed glasses.)

Arthur is the average golden-boy-super-jock-perfect-preppy-soccer-captain. He sees Merlin somewhere and instantly starts going out of his way, going to Merlin's store, reading his weird books and listening to his weird music just to impress him.

Merlin wasn't at the desk. Arthur hadn't even prepared for the possibility that there would be somebody else there instead, and had cheerfully trudged through the drizzle with the thought of seeing Merlin ahead of him the whole time. He went downstairs to sell his books to the elderly owner of the store, who called himself Gaius and looked askance at Arthur for selling books back only a month into the semester. Arthur wanted to tell him that he hardly ever used them, but stood meekly and allowed Gaius's silent judgment. It took only five minutes and he was over a hundred pounds richer, and now that he wasn't distracted by Merlin he had a chance to look about the place ( ... )

Omg, anon. Marry me.

Well, you sort of had me at "The 400 Blows", which I love.
And then you had me even more at Merlin eating carrots with hummus, which is kind of gross but as a middle-eastern you've got to love hummus!
But now! With Morgana's "Are you drunk?", and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Fanfarlo, and Modest Mouse, and the HONEY.

I'm completely inlove with your Merlin, and Arthur is adorable and a psycho, and he IS creepy, but that makes him all the more greater!

I cannot wait for more!

This is fantastic! (but then, a fic set in a used bookshop is pretty much bound to grab my heart, and you write so very well) Arthur, you adorable creepster. Very much looking forward to more, anon.

Arthur had never been particularly interested in girls-- liked them, yes, but Arthur's interests were football, making money, and having a good time, in that order. He'd had two girlfriends in school. The first was Sophia, and although they got on quite well, they ran out of things to say to each other and parted amicably after six months. The second, Vivian, was the prettiest girl he'd ever met, but she was spoilt beyond control and wanted every minute of his time and attention. Eventually she broke up with him for a bloke who worshiped her no matter how much she abused him. Arthur was invited to the wedding ( ... )

He was curled up on the couch in his pyjamas that evening, feeling sorry for himself and wondering if he should transfer schools, when Morgana came in with a stack of DVDs. "I don't remember giving you a key," he said, but couldn't work up the energy for more than a half-hearted glare. "What did you bring?"

"You're still in the beginning stages," she replied, laying out her movies. "I thought we might start with something lighter than Babette, for now."

They watched Belle du Jour and he felt marginally better knowing he still found tiny blonde women very, very hot.

"Now tell me, what's wrong?" Morgana said after the movie, over tea, and he felt so miserable he actually told her.

"I'm a poof," he mumbled. "You would think I'd have noticed before now, but I always liked girls and now there's this boyShe listened patiently, and for that he forgave her for thinking over it for nearly five minutes and making him feel even more stupid than he had before ( ... )
