Weddings do cost a lot, but there's this show on TLC you may have seen called For Better or For Worse. If you don't know it, absolutely insane couples leave *all* the planning of their weddings to a group of friends/relatives and a wedding planner they've never met. The team has to do it all in a week for $5000 or less. Aside from the sheer insanity of doing this, it did get me thinking, that if these people can pull it off - and some of the weddings they do are pretty darn decent - in that little time for that little money, why the hell can't I manage something similar with longer? Without the week constraint, there's a ton of stuff one can do oneself to bring costs way down. I'll probably still spend way too much on my wedding. But I'm pretty sure I can do it for less than $27 000. Course it helps to have the world's most artistic mother who also owns a flower shop on board...
