for Lloyd and Bert

It was getting to be late, but that wasn't stopping Sandor from going to the club for a drink. Lloyd and Bert were working, which was most of the reason he was going there in the first place, and he found he was very much looking forward to sitting at the bar and (a phrase of Lloyd's comes to mind) shooting the shit with them. It seemed like a long ( Read more... )

"Oh, screw you and the enormous horse you rode in on," Cuthbert snapped back merrily, drying his hands on a towel as he walked over. "What do you want? I'd say walking into a respectable establishment like this and behaving like a barn animal oughta cause a man to lose face, but I see you know from experience."

He leaned over the counter- still out of reach, mind you- and smiled prettily at Sandor. "The usual?"

"You planning on getting new material anytime soon?" he retorted, settling into his seat and nodding at the waitress as she passed. "Yes, the usual, make it double with extra ice." It had been hot as the seven hells today, and humid to boot; the sun going down had simply removed light from the equation.

As Bert poured, he glanced around for the other half of the dynamic bartending duo. "Lloyd sneaking upstairs to watch the dancers again?" he asked with a chuckle, knowing full well tonight was one of the nights the dancers were all men.

Cuthbert narrowed his eyes at Sandor for the jibe and reached up for a glass. "Smartasses get the well whiskey," he reminded him blithely, even as he poured from a top shelf bottle.

"Must be," he said, a grin spreading on his face as he looked around for his friend. "Hey Lloyd!" Bert called toward the stairs, though he had no real idea where he'd actually gone off to. "Quit the pocket pool, we've got a customer," he said, laughter bubbling over as he exchanged looks with Sandor.

Lloyd wasn't up to anything particularly glamorous or particularly queer, for that matter, unless visiting the bathroom counted for either. Bert's hollering got him to hurry up some, but as it turned out, the club wasn't on fire, and neither was the customer.

"What? I was just getting a little backroom action, is all," Lloyd said, raising his eyebrows suggestively. Of course, he had Helen in mind, as opposed to naked dudes of any sort. "You guys, you're just jealous."

"Of you? Ha," Sandor retorted, smacking his open palm on the bar top. "C'mon, Henreid, been here five whole minutes without a drink in my hand-- and make sure he gives me the good stuff," he added, tossing a balled-up napkin at the back of Bert's head with a grin. "How's your night?" he went on more conversationally, settling back in his chair and drumming his thumbs idly on the curved edge of the bar.
