[After spending most of the day trying to grain his bearings, Canute finally manages to turn on this awkward stone-like device. He has no idea that his voice is being recorded, but the strange device was now glowing.]

I-Is this sorcery? [He silences himself briefly, still fumbling with the object.] What is this? I never seen anything like before ( Read more... )

It would seem to me that you are new to this world as well. I am only just arrived myself, but if you wish I could tell you what I have learned of this place.

As for the device, it may perhaps be run by magic, but it would seem to be a common item here, used for communication. The creature following you is likely your pokemon. It is yours to keep and take care of, and in turn, your pokemon is to protect you in this world.

W-what!?

[A loud thump could be heard since the prince accidentally dropped the odd stone. It crashed against the ground loudly, nearly muting everything that Canute said next.]

It talked...? The rock talked?

[Scooping up the communicator once more, Canute hesitantly spoke into it.]

A pokemon? Are you speaking about this dog that keeps following me? Mhm...

[He was now eying the creature with scrutiny since it was gazing at him expectantly.]

So it's mine....

[Oh, he startled him. It looked like this person was even less familiar with technology than the Warrior was- at least he had heard stories from his comrades about the devices on their worlds.]

No speaking rock- my voice simply came through it. You are in New Bark Town, correct? If you would prefer it, we could meet and speak face to face, instead of using these devices.

I suppose I must be, though I cannot be sure. I am only learning this myself.

[Still trying to comprehend how this magical device works, Canute envisioned a tiny human living within this stone-like object when the other spoke of meeting him.]

You are a mortal are you not? I've paid little heed to the old fables that speak of Valhalla and its' gods, but not even Odin himself could construct such a device.

New Bark Town? Oh, yes! I am here.

[He can't help it, he has to laugh a bit at the man's amazement.]

I serve a Goddess, but I am nothing more than a mortal. [The mention of such strange names for Gods throws him off a little, but he doesn't bring it up.]

Then we should meet. Where are you? Finding you should only take a moment, as the town is small.

A goddess? Her name wouldn't be Freya, would it?

[Canute must have seemed a tad annoyed now, especially since he tends to be the butt of every 'Freya' joke. Those damned Vikings always seem gleeful in reminding the prince about his fair appearance.]

I'm...somewhere I guess, upon an empty street. When I first awoke, I was nestled within the branches of the shrubbery nearby. The hound that stands guard over me now, was guarding me then.

Freya? No. She is called Cosmos, the Goddess of Harmony.

[He doesn't understand the annoyance. In the world(s) he comes from, fighting pretty boys are common.]

Very well. I shall be there shortly. I will be followed by a small blue creature with no arms- my own pokemon. [And with that, he ends the conversation via pokegear and starts off to search. It doesn't take long- soon enough, Canute ought to see a Man with long silver hair, dark clothes, and a Wooper following behind him approaching.]

[His tone changed once he heard the goddess' name.]

Cosmos? Ah, so...

[Now Canute sounds perplexed since he doesn't remember a goddess with that name hailing from Norse mythology.]

A small blue creature with no arms? I shall keep an eye out for you then.

[Waiting idly by the road, the little Eevee sitting besides him starts to clamor once it spots someone approaching.]

Hm? Is that...him?

[Canute sees the arm-less blue creature traveling beside the oddly silver-haired man.]

It must be, he has that...thing with him.

[The Warrior of Light pauses as he approaches, taking a moment to examine the young man.]

You are the one I spoke with over these devices, correct? I apologize, I did not learn your name. [He holds up his own pokegear as an example.]

[Realizing that this man truly was the one who spoke with him earlier, Canute nods in confirmation.]

Yes, it is I.

I am Prince Canute of Denmark, forgive me for my hasty remarks earlier. I never seen a device like this before.

[He holds up his own pokegear.]

What is this even for? I am afraid I do not know.

[The Warrior gives him a small smile.] It is a pleasure to meet you then, Canute of Denmark. I am known as the Warrior of Light.

It is fine. I understand- had I not heard of such things before, I would have been as confused as you. I believe the devices are used for communication, and I have also learned that they contain information about the various types of pokemon.

[The Warrior of Light? That certainly sounds like a very valiant name. Canute did note that this man seemed to carry himself with a grace unseen in his homeland. Not even his own father, King Sweyn, carries himself with such poised grace.]

So, I can speak with others using this tool? How absurd! Messages are normally written by hand.

This is quite odd...

[He's feeling a tad overwhelmed now.]

A pokemon? Oh yes, is that thing following you a pokemon? [He means the Wooper creature.]

[It's only his title, and not actually his name, since he doesn't remember his name. But it's difficult explaining that to everyone, so he just introduces himself as the Warrior of Light.]

It can transmit your voice, or your image, to another person. It can also send written messages, but instead of physically writing, these notated letters are used instead. [He points out the keyboard on the Pokegear- and who would have thought that he would have ended up giving lessons in how to use technology?]

It is. This pokemon is called a Wooper. It seems that pokemon come in many different forms.

[Canute's eyes grew large.]

It can take your image!? What sort of fiendish magic is that? The pagans are behind this, aren't they?

[Oh, no! He's worried, very worried.]

A Wooper? Oh, I suppose that pokemon is different from mine.

[He eyed the dog-like creature once it peered up at him.]

[Oh, no, he got Canute worried again without meaning to. Explaining this is very difficult, especially since he isn't entirely sure what he's talking about. ]

It is no magic. I do not know exactly how it works, but I doubt it to be the result of... pagans. [Whatever those are.] I am sure that it will do you no harm.

[He looks between his Wooper and Canute's Eevee.] Very different. I wonder what yours is called? They have a name for each type, and individual pokemon are also named, from what I have seen.

[The dog barks at the Wooper, obviously curious in the blue fiend. Watching the two pokemons interact, Canute holds the pokegear's camera towards the Eevee.]

This takes the image of another, correct? [He looked towards the Warrior again.] If so, then perhaps this device knows what it is.

[He fumbles around with the pokegear for a moment, that is until a noisy 'click' is heard.]

Ah, look! It has its picture now.

[Canute shows it to him.]

It says that the dog is a Eevee.
