[After spending most of the day trying to grain his bearings, Canute finally manages to turn on this awkward stone-like device. He has no idea that his voice is being recorded, but the strange device was now glowing.]
I-Is this sorcery? [He silences himself briefly, still fumbling with the object.] What is this? I never seen anything like before

As for the device, it may perhaps be run by magic, but it would seem to be a common item here, used for communication. The creature following you is likely your pokemon. It is yours to keep and take care of, and in turn, your pokemon is to protect you in this world.

Then that is the type of pokemon you have. If you wished, I am sure that you could give a name to your Eevee. I have not yet named my own, but I admit that I have little skill at naming things.

Do you think I should name it? It seems to be quite fond of me, but I am unsure what I think of it.

Kneeling down to pet the little creature, the prince thought of a suitable name for the Eevee.]
Ragnar.
[He nods.]
Ragnar was my first and only true friend. This creature is perhaps the only thing that truly loves me, so 'Ragnar' it is.

[The "only true friend" part surprises him a bit, and he doesn't miss the "was" part of the young man's words, either. It causes heroic instincts to raise their heads a little.]
I would not be so callous as to say that any might take your friend Ragnar's place, but there is opportunity in this world for you to make new friends.

Your words are not callous, but I know better than to hope for what cannot come true. The role I must play leads me along a road of seclusion. I, and I alone, have the fortitude to move both heaven and earth for the sake of all people.
Friendship is a word that is forever lost to me for I must be a 'king' above all else.
[Canute sighed.]
Such a burden I carry willingly, Warrior of Light.
Reply
If not friend, then perhaps 'comrade?' This world is not your own, Prince Canute of Denmark. You are not required to be a king here, and the burden of facing a new world is not one that should be faced with none to turn to.

I would not like to burden you with such a thought, but you are right. This realm is not my own, not even the skies here are familiar to me.
I'm lost within a sea of uncertainty.

It is no burden. I doubt any can be fully sure of themselves upon awakening in a new world. I admit, I have found myself lost as well.

[Canute grown sick of the battles that wage in his world. He was tired of the endless slaughter by butchers who lack a purpose in life. The prince was tired of the foolishness.]
There must be many here who are stranded in this realm, many who are bewildered by their sudden setting. It would be pretentious to think that we could aid them all, but I wish it to be.

Perhaps it is not possible, especially not when we have so recently arrived in this world ourselves, but through the devices, it is possible to at least give advice and tell newcomers what has happened to them. It may not be the solution you would wish to find, but it is one that you could try.

Yes, this is the least we can do. However, I wonder...
[He turned his gaze up towards the sky.]
What is expected of us here?

[Perhaps if he had been in this world longer, he would be able to say something to Canute, but they have both only just appeared in this world. The question is one the Warrior himself echoes. To him, having a purpose is all important. He had one before... but it was not one that was useful in a world like this.]
If we travel within this world, perhaps we shall be able to discover the answer.
