Getting it Write

A friend came into the bar last night.  I hadn't seen him in a few weeks so it was nice to get to chat with him a bit.  At one point in our conversation he said "I've been reading your Facebook lately... Do you know what a good writer you are ( Read more... )

You sound like me. :o| (That wasn't a cheer or a ra-ra, was it?)

I've got great ideas for many different forms of writing, but the doing of them is a huge road block.

Once I read "Do you know what a good writer you are?" I immediately started critiquing your post as well as reading it and you know what, you are a good writer. Every thought flowed from one to the other which is something I struggle with all the time. It's hard for me to slow my inner dialogue down enough for me to type it out in a way that makes as much sense on the screen as it did in my head.

I took a creative writing class on line when I started putting stuff together for my potential book. I also started my blog, http://jesushas2daddies.blogspot.com/ which, in its own way begs me to post more than here or FB. I have a following of about 70 people and I don't want to disappoint them.
I found that I am too easily distracted, so I had to make time to write. I turned off the phone, the internetz, and just sat and wrote. It was painful sometimes, but in the end I got a whole lot done. There is a book by Julia Cameron that I found helpful. It's not for everyone, but it talks about discipline and what it takes to get started.

I think your friend made a valid point, you have great posts and I look forward to seeing them when they pop up.

You and me both, dude.
I've read your/you've read my stuff on here for a few years now, and I've noticed we're both pretty decent at it. I'm trying to keep it up.
