Kickin' Some Arse

The training went really well last night. They had moved everyone into a different room and it's *way* better for what we're doing. After talking for a few days about different aspects of support and techniques I finally let everyone log into the tools. And wow, that was an adventure. I made the mistake of having the system ask everyone to ( Read more... )

When I was doing a bunch of work in Singapore, I found it interesting that our offices were in a brand new building, and quite nicely appointed. The building was fully leased, and the outside of the building was nice, but the lobby, halls, and elevator lobbies were all quite plain, with bare concrete floors and walls, etc... I asked the office manager if the building was still under construction, and he said no, the building owners just don't spend a lot of money on common areas, since they don't generate rent in and of themselves.

Also, our office wanted everyone so fluent in English that they actually fined (yes, money fines) any employee that was caught speaking any language other than English in the office.

So the air-freshener guy doesn't surprise me all that much. (LOL) To each culture their own, huh?

Glad it's going well. You've got a good personality for training, so I'm sure they'll love the work you're doing.

yeah, you could say that of this building. the waiting area and the offices are nicely appointed but the common areas and office spaces aren't anything special (and a little dingy really).

there's a dog that is always asleep on the doorstep (they have insured him now funnily enough)...

and wow, the smell outside the office building is brutal... you walk out the front door and it hits you right in the face - but just in that one spot. it's the only time I've been hit by fierce stink since I've gotten here :)

the friendly nature of the employees makes you overlook just about all of the "downsides" though...

And thanks - I think I put on a good show :)
