Brian Heads to Pensacola - Welcomed By All Save Sarah*

May 21, 2007 20:09

I'm home... had a wonderful time with
bustabeat.  He's a great host, a constant surprise and a sweet, quality man.  I don't think the weekend coulda gone any better really...

Thursday - Flew to Pensacola and was picked up by a man who likes to have all the magnetic strips on his card readers facing down!

Friday - Todd let me sleep in some before we headed off to see Shrek 3 (nothing new here folks, move along - it shoulda been called Shrek 3: Left Overs.  Ok, the Princess Squad was funny as was the "spoon full of sugar nod" but it was a ho-hum movie).  We followed that up with a sushi snack.  The place Todd wanted to hit was closed so we ended up at another spot and had sushi made by K-Fed (seriously, white boy, white trash, white rice).  Food was decent but it ended up not agreein' with us on the whole.  So from there we headed back to the house and did, er, stuff...  We met up with Ex-San Diegans and good friends of Todd's, Jason and Bill, for dinner at Todd's fav local pizza spot, Ozone.  The pizza was excellent as was the company.  After that we stopped in right quick at The Roundup but went on home as we wanted to get an early start at the beach the next day.

Saturday - BEACH... Awesomeness.  Spent the day in the sun and met up with Todd's buds Allan and Mike - two southern gents who enjoyed cuttin' it up and havin' fun.  The attitude on the beach was low and the neighborhood meet and greet mood was high.  A lot of folks were already in town for the big Memorial Day Weekend deal they do on Pensacola Beach.  I was happy to be there when it was a little more mellow and there was still plenty to see.  I got ribbed for wearing old school trunks (all dem boys were in square fronts or less - hehe) and I also got a lot of sun.  The water was so nice - we saw some dolphins and even an manatee!  After the beach we drove to Bill and Jason's to shower up before headin' to a party put on by the local bear group.  It was pretty relaxed and sort of a new situation for me - being with a bunch of guys I didn't know.  They really weren't an overly welcoming bunch but I know how that goes.  I did enjoy myself and the guys I talked to were real nice.  From there we went back to Bill and J's (there house is amazing, right on the Gulf) and watched an HD doc about sharks instead of hittin' the bar.  But not before I beat Jason at pool on his own table - hehe.

Sunday - BEACH... had grub at Bagelheads (super yum) and hit the beach even earlier.  More socialzin' and sunnin' was done and I just kept thinking about how nice it would be to have beaches like that out on the West Coast.  After the beach we stopped off at Whataburger (
shortstackbear - my first time!) and I got a burger to tide me over 'til dinner.  It was decent but not nearly as good as In-N-Out (no matter what Todd says).  We relaxed a while after we cleaned up and then headed out to meet up with Allan and Mike for dinner at McGuire's Irish Pub.  Man o man, the food was excellent.  I had a big ol' filet with shrimp and salad and also had an "Irish Wake" - which just about put me on my ass!  Everyone had a laugh on me when I took a piss in the Woman's restroom (they have purposefully confusing signs!) and a good time was had by all.

Monday - got up at the butt crack o' dawn to get back to SD.  Sluggo picked me up from the 'port and we caught up over lunch at Brian's.  Now I'm sittin' on my butt, playing with mog.com, and waiting for Heroes to come on.  It's 10:22 Pensa time so I'm already a little tuckered.  Hopefully work will go well tomorrow.

click here to see a band that Todd helped me rediscover (oh cheese flavored bliss!)

* Sarah is Todd's second chihuahua and she only pretended to like me when Todd forced her to.  I was told she pretty much hates on everyone except Todd and his folks so I didn't feel bad.  'Sides, his other pooch Nero is my new BFF.  Yes, we had a lot of laughs around this!

friends, good times, todd, travels
